I checked this book out for the gluten free chapter. They have the best pizza dough recipe I've had since going gluten free (and I've tried many). I'm excited to try a few of the other gluten free recipes (I haven't had time to get to them yet). I really like being able to make up a bunch of dough and having it ready to go in the fridge for whenever I want it.

I found Orwel's narration long winded when elaborating on government policy, though the futuristic setting and plot to buck an overbearing system despite the grave consequence were enough to keep me immersed.

I actually enjoy this more than the classic Siddhartha
Wu Mei or Adeline (her English name) was the youngest of five siblings, born into a wealthy family in Communist China. Because her mother died giving birth to her, Adeline is considered bad luck by her family. Her father remarries a woman named Niang, and they have two children together, who are spoiled rotten. Adeline and her original siblings are often neglected and ignored. Niang controls the family dynamics and she's decided that Adeline is not worth much of anything. Adeline's great aunt and grandfather offer some love and support, but as they are financial dependent on Niang, they must be discreet in showing any affection. Adeline is sent away to boarding school for much of her childhood, and is completely cut off from her family emotionally. She yearns to be loved by her father and gain respect from Niang, but she feels invisible in their eyes. While not physically abused by her parents, their emotional neglect is heartbreaking to Adeline, and she immerses herself into her studies and books to forget the pain. This is a heartbreaking true "Cinderella" story. A good example of life in China in the 1940s during World War II.

Diverting but ultimately predictable war on terror thriller. See David Ignatius far superior "Body of Lies" instead.

Just because a book isn't billed as a mystery doesn't mean there isn't one lurking between the pages. I tend to attribute the mystery genre to every book I read, one way or the other. Surely you'll discover the built-in mystery of Ian MacMillan's story, which combines the Hawaiian Island of Moloka'i and a symbolic koa canoe with a misfit crew of paddlers dealing with their own plithora of demons. I thoroughly enjoyed the rough ride from Moloka'i to O'ahu and am saving the book to reread on a rainy Hawaiian day.

This book by far, is one of the best books I've read so far this year! I'm not used to reading this type of novels but, I have to say that from the moment I began reading I was drawn to the story! From the first page I was glued to the book and wanting to continue non stop! Loved the storyline, the action, suspense, and the love story! This book is definitely one I would love to read again and I can't wait to see the movie next year! Now on to the sequel... Catching Fire!
