Really good book - it was a good one to read while living outside the country, and I leaf through it now when I long to be an ex-patriot.

Surprisingly edifying, deep, entertaining...G. is a prostitute caught in denial. Nicholas Darrow is an Anglo-Catholic priest with extraordinary psychic and healing abilities. Their paths cross at the death of a friend. G. is drawn to Nicholas's God, but can't give up the Life -- just yet.

This is the first book of Hemingway's that I have ever read. Really, my only knowledge of him comes from having read The Paris Wife (which I realize is a work of fiction) and subsequent research. I picked this book up out of curiosity to get his view of things and that era of his life, and I thought it was interesting. Some chapters interested me more than others. The Pilot Fish and the Rich was such a vivid and heartbreaking portrait of an affair. There is no doubt he was a great writer, tortured and flawed as he was.

This is a nice addition to the oeuvre of Katrina literature, but it feels oddly off. From the use of color (each section gets its own color) to the garrish faces on characters, this one left me a little cold.

Another fascinating Picoult novel. This one involves a teen with Asbergers syndrome. The story is told from his perspective, as well as his mother and various other characters. Picoult's ability to make one see situations from such divers perspectives without judging is impressive. Plus, she writes a real page-turner.

A great story about how Greg Mortenson's (an American mountain climber) experience building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The book highlights the good one person can accomplish if they take action. I had a couple of huge issues with this book, however. First of all, it was extremely annoying how many times "Mortenson" is repeated in this book (see Amazon.com's concordance on this book at http://www.amazon.com/Three-Cups-Tea-...). Combining "Mortonson" and "Greg" there is a whopping 2045 occurances on 334 pages. That breaks down to a litte over six times per page--pretty high on my annoyance radar. The word "school" only appears 437 times. What would have been wrong with using the word "he" a time or two to break up the monotony. Secondly, sometimes it read as an "Everything You Wanted to Know About Afghanistan/Pakistan But Were Afraid To Ask" rather than an account of the impact the schools had on the people in that region. I would have rather heard more about the people's lives who were changed than a background on Mother Teresa. The regional tutorial was very tedious and sometimes downright boring whereas the parts about his being held captive, the effects of his travels on his family, and the snippets about specific beneficiaries of his efforts were much more interesting. Overall it was a story I would have preferred hearing Greg Mortenson tell himself, from his own perspective. As it was, I feel it is rather confusing to list him as the "author" when clearly it was written in a third personal journalistic format by David Relin.

I couldn't believe that a man had written this book. He shows wonderful insight and feeling of this character

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Typical Nora Roberts. Three strong women, and three gorgeous men. They must get together to solve a mythical mystery. This time a celtic flavor involving keys. No surprises, but solid, enjoyable, Nora Roberts. On my way to buy the next two in the trilogy. Not sure how I missed that they came out. I always buy any new Nora Roberts, one of my favorite authors.

I was up until 3am last night finishing this book, it's one of those... The amount of detail provided, from the day to day minutia to the life-changing dramas, is staggering. It's so incredibly, painfully intimate, while maintaining an impressive objective and almost invisible narrative voice. LeBlanc's journalism is an invaluable window into the human side of socioeconomics.

I don't remember much about the specifics of this book, but I do remember that I didn't like it all that much. The partnership of Crusie and Mayer has since gotten a lot smoother. Skip this one and pick up "Agnes and the Hitman" instead.
