A bit perplexed by all of the 3 star ratings. A remarkable display of virtuosity and breadth of vision, and extremely moving to boot.

I read this series some years ago. Book 3 and 4 were loaned to me by a special friend. What a delight to re-read these stories. #3 is the continued story of Father Tim and his new bride, Cynthia, and their involvement as a couple with the charming townfolk of Mitford. The humor and pathos of the lives in the town is so refreshing and heartwarming. I loved reading this book before sleep and snuggling into the dark under the covers with a suppressed chuckle...

Want an alternate view of how to build peace in Pakistan and Afghanistan? You'll find it here, although you'll have to wade through a lot to discover the full and very worthy tale. The telling of it, unfortunately, proves its greatest weakness, as does its apparent effort to serve as a fundraiser and application for the Nobel Peace Prize for Greg Mortenson. After the "Into Thin Air" beginning, the story and the schools build slowly through a fairly consistent middle, then the account starts to rush before it finally corkscrews through 9/11 into Afghanistan. I won't list examples or explain further what I mean, and so dwell on the poor writing. My purpose in mentioning these weaknesses is to acknowledge a wistfulness for a better vehicle for such a worthy tale and to say, yes, readers will encounter some rough patches, but don't, don't, don't let it stop you from finishing the story. The reward--a sense of greater insight and compassion for some areas of the world badly in need of both from the Western world, especially the US, could not be more timely. And as much as I bemoan its overt attempts at self-glorification, I do hope it succeeds in encouraging people to contribute to a different approach to relating to the Muslim world.

I enjoyed this book. It goes back to the Gold Coast. I believe I still like By the Rivers of Babylon the best.

I am a Nicholas Sparks fan due to the fact that he can evoke so much emotion, and I have read everything he's published. With that said, this wasn't my favorite book. Maybe it's because I know what to expect now and his books do seem a little repetitious, but this is the first novel from him that didn't bring me to tears. It was a good read for just getting lost in but I have come to expect great things from him and didn't get it here. I did like the characters in this book but we just need something fresher.

I was interested enough to finish the book, but was left wondering what the point was. So Sara Louise thought she wasn't loved enough and was bitter throughout the book, but there was no real change in her as far as I could tell. It seemed sudden for her to be really smart and interested in becoming a doctor, but she didn't change in my opinion. She's going to end up as mean and bitter as her grandma.

I honestly searched for this book on a lark. I was wondering if it would even be listed since it isn't so much a book as it is a bunch of pictures pasted together in book format with some blurbs along side them. Well, here it is! lol I picked this book up on sale at Barnes & Noble for $6. The pictures are very high quality and simply breathtaking. 5 stars because the pictures are the best quality I've seen anywhere. (Now if only I could find a Brando one, my life would be complete.)

I found most of the story interesting, as long as there was some dialogue between the characters. Around halfway through the novel, there is a lengthy section devoted to describing solely the workings of the government(The Party that is), which I lost almost all interest in. Along with the description of the partys workings, there is also a section set to describe "New Speak", which I found surprisingly amusing. Orwell had obviously put alot of thought into the new and refined language. It had been designed for the sole purpose of eliminating the thought of, and eventually the means of expressing any oppositions to the party. Overall I enjoyed the book, because of the depth of the characters, as well as how Orwell developed the relationship between Wilson and Jennifer (except for the part where wilson was imagining raping/ killing her cause that was just creepy).
