I've said before that "Calvin und Hobbes" is an excellent way to practice your German. If you had any affection for the strip in English, reading it in German is only more enjoyable. A teacher can easily sample from it to make fun exercises for students, and a student may learn a great deal by reading it through. This one seems to have a good number of American cultural references (such as "Halloween") that would not be obvious to German readers, but doubtless most Germans are familiar enough with the basics to follow it.

This book is fascinating if you are at all into theatre and Richard Burton and want a glimpse into broadway acting in the 60's. I think it was the 60's anyway, been a while since I read the book. Anyway, you get the scoop on Richard Burton's relationship with Elizabeth Taylor, you get to know about Hamlet, and if you liked the book, you can watch Burton's performance on DVD, which I highly recommend.

It took me a while to read this book. I did enjoy it, but there was a part, when he talks about the section and the history of it that was hard to get through. A good end to the series though, I was still left wondering about what happens to the characters next.

This was pretty good. I was more interested in the story about the affair rather than the trial part of the story, I would get to those parts and it would kind of slow it down for me. Not my favorite book by her but good.

If Frank and April Wheeler had been Catholic, I think they could have easily qualified for an annulment. I felt relieved when April finally accepted the truth of herself and her feelings for her husband: she never really loved him. Ya don’t say? They both had half-baked ideas of themselves and what they were getting into, which is not really uncommon after all. There is a good reason why the divorce rate is what it is. And I suspect marriages failed as much in the 1950s as they do today, the big difference between now and then being that today it is more accepted to get a divorce and (somewhat) less stigma to be a single mom and considerably more options for women to be employed and independent. So tragic that Frank and April Wheeler’s marriage ended in such a severe and tragic way. A commenter below stated that the “fearlessness with which Yates writes with is so jarring that it forces you to go back and find out what he is doing to accomplish such marvelous feats.” I whole heartedly agree with this and can’t overstate how exquisitely well-written this book is. I listened to this as an audio book but shall be buying a hard copy to re-read in more depth at my leisure.
