Each book in the Wings of Glory series is better than the one before it -- and the first one was excellent. Sarah Sundin writes vividly and creates characters so real it seems we should be able to reach out and touch them -- and invite them home for tea. While reading this third and final book of the series I worried, I laughed, I cried, I got angry, I held my breath, I longed to give advice .... As Ray and Helen struggled to build their lives together I grew as close to them as any (mentally healthy) reader can get to story characters. Best of all at the end of the book Blue Skies Tomorrow pulled all three Novak brothers and their families back together and rounded off the series to perfection. I highly recommend all three books and anything else Sarah Sundin ever writes!

I was really surprised by this book - most "I was part of a historic event" autobiographies are very pat, almost boring. "Yes," they seem to say, "it was a great experience, and we triumphed through adversity, etc., etc." Poynter's tale is almost gossipy (in the best way) about all the bad and good that went down in the Biosphere (one of her fellow biospherians spit in her face!), but was still (at least to my reading) a pretty balanced account of what went on before, during, and after her Biosphere experience. Way more entertaining than I expected.

I thought that Bragg's story of rising above his "white trash" roots to become an accomplished journalist was amazing. I was less impressed with his writing - it seemed throughout that he was trying too hard to impress the reader with his story and that his prose was completely overwrought. I would recommend instead Jeanette Walls's The Glass Castle, which is a similar story, far more uplifting, and less artificial-seeming in its writing.

There are few authors who I can read over and over again and STILL laugh out loud every damn time. Christopher Moore is a comic genius. He has yet to write a book I don't like. Picking a favorite is difficult, but Lamb does come very close. Its beautifully written and Biff is the my all time favorite character of his. And when you take away all the funny stuff it still remains an incredibly enjoyable story about the importance of friendship.

Read 27 pages and couldn't stand another stat, number, or amount of times the character did something. Annoyingly boring at best; not worth the time it took to read the 27 pages I did manage.
