For me this was a touching and inspirational book. It really gave me a heart for the homeless--a ministry area I had always shied away from. Brandon Heath has a song called, "Give me your eyes" that I often think about in relation to this story.

This seems like an idea that could really help with mindful eating, and with abstaining from absent minded nibbling. Basically, his idea is to eat whatever you really really want but first put it in the bowl and sit down in your favorite place to eat. The author says overweight is a symptom of being out of touch with what your body really wants, needs, likes, can digest, etc. He eats basically only one food at a time so he can pay attention to all the signals his body gives him about the food. It's a little tedious and too personal, but anyway, it does contain a lot of ideas in common with the Slow Down Diet and The Overfed Head, so maybe the one bowl will prove to be a useful tool. As I have been learning more about Human Design (ihdschool.com), it seems that this way of eating is good for people with a certain type of digestive system in their design. I am not designed to need to eat this way (one food at a time IS one of the digestive types), but it is always good to try to pay attention to your eating.

I know this is a classic, but I must have missed the point. I didn't see that anything happened in the story & I suspect that I'm just not smart enough to get it. If I have time, maybe I will read some lit reviews or something. Seriously, I can't even figure out anything to say, it touched me so little.

** spoiler alert ** ***Received from NETGALLEY*** (Review includes a SPOILER) If you appreciate folklore and occasional erotica mixed in with your Witches, Faeries, and Demon’s, then ‘THE DEMON LOVER’ by Juliet Dark is the book for you. Callie McFae is a successful published author when she accepts a teaching position at Fairwick College located in New York’s countryside. She soon purchases a home that seems to call to her, and begins to feel content with her accomplishments for the first time she can remember. After a few weeks Cailie discovers an immense deal about herself, her family, and her new peers. It seems that Callie is in the place she needs to be and surrounded by the people to help nurture the gift she inherited down from her late mother and father. It’s difficult to summarize this novel because the story seemed to jump around. There are many elements to the book that are missing from the above summary, but that’s more because there is SO MUCH going on in this tale. There’s the Supernatural aspect, the guy-problem aspect, the house, the complicated folklore - for me, it was just too much to enjoy and unfortunately I found myself dragging through it. While I enjoy reading Paranormal Romance, even classify the genre among my favorites, this story was a little too much for me to follow. With the word ‘LOVER’ in the title, I was disappointed that Callie’s love interest was not introduced until the last 150 pages. This was not my cup of tea, but the sex scenes were HOT, and for that reason, I give it: 3 out of 5 STARS

SUCKED!

The sexual exploitation of a child (from age 11 to 17 and referred to as a "nymphet"), and its justification, forms the plot line of this book. I have read a few summaries and reviews to understand it's historical significance, but the subject matter horrifies me. I do not want to fill my mind with darkness.

Oh my. A good friend gave me this book while I was unemployed. Within the week, I'd read the first three books. If you're not a Steven King fan, don't dismiss these--along with The Stand, the first three volumes of the Dark Tower series represent King at his best.

I normally can't stand science fiction and fantasy, but for some reason, I was able to forget the one (and major) aspect of this book that is hard to believe. I got so attached to the characters of this book that I actually cried at the end - and I have never cried from reading a book before!

In the beginning of the book, Robert Merry relates an incident in the early life of James K. Polk in which he had to have kidney stones removed through a surgical procedure performed without anesthetic. This horrific incident, which rendered Polk impotent and/or sterile, is the only thing told in an interesting manner in this entire book. The rest of the tome relates dry policy debates in dispassionate, unmoving language in torpid and slow blocks of prose that made this reader want to hit his own face with the book. You'd think there must be a great story to tell in the acquisition of the entire west coast of what we now recognize as the United States, but it will require someone with a little more literary passion to tell that story compellingly
