The characters are easy to get into. The style is cute, simple and funny. The main of the main characters for the series are introduced all in the 1st volume and are very likable. All in all, the series takes many twists and turns while keeping a very enjoyable plot. One moment you're laughing, the next you could be crying.

An incredible, chilling, dystopian vision of a society based on the assignment of reproductive roles. The frightening part of Atwood's vision as that since the time it was written, certain aspects of the novel seem somewhat more real and plausible...beware the not-too-distant future!

If it hadn't been for the prologue introducing the story in a unique way, I might've quit reading early on. Starting off the main book with Brynn heading into a women's clinic would have normally induced me to shut the book. Brynn's continued feeling of regret for her decision (a miscarriage prevented her from following through on the abortion) helped me feel more comfortable with the novel. I liked Kristin's treatment of the theme. Even though THE TRAIT starts with the consequences of premarital relations, the story you read is clean with no sex scenes. If you like futuristic books with elements of romance, you will probably like this book. I am planning to read the rest of the series.

The story of Anna and Charles began in the anthology On the Prowl with "Alpha and Omega". Although the initial short story is (a) a little too short and (b) too open-ended, it's still much better than Cry Wolf. Anna is dealing with the aftermath of of repeated rape, while Charles has to keep himself from pushing their fragile relationship too far too quickly. And yet, the depiction of both Anna's emotional struggle and Charles' dilemma is so bland and superficial it failed to move me in any way. The development of their relationship is further pushed into the background by a mystery plot and an emphasis on pack politics. It wouldn't be so bad if the few moments that Anna and Charles share alone would match "Alpha and Omega" in intensity, but they don't. I wanted to like this book, I really did. I ended up disappointed, but I'm hoping the next book in this series will be better.
