I ended up not really enjoying this one. There were things I liked about it- the perspective was kind of fun. Seeing things from the elephants' points of view was an interesting change. Their mythology, their creation story, their after-life were all enjoyable. It was also fascinating to learn a bit about their family units and the hierarchy that goes along with them. What ruined the book for me though was the constant obsession with poop and sex. Granted, it's animal sex, so it's different- less offensive- than if we were talking about humans, but it was still a major and unnecessary distraction from the story. And while it's true that animals are obsessed with dung and urine and anything else that marks a strong scent, as a human, I don't care to hear about animals eating each others' poo. Maybe that's just me, though. Also, I didn't care for the ending, but I won't spoil it by going into detail. But I have to give Gowdy props for doing something completely different.

OMG. This is not what I was expecting AT ALL. I get that authors need something that excites them and makes them interested, butit's rather weird. I am skimmiing it - I'm not a big fan of " The Virgin's First Sex Experience", so that's a bit of a problem too. I guess I want to know if Mallet goes back to the SBC. Seems like LF has run out of characters to write about. I think she's done a good job with theones she has. One thing which I feel I must mention- Surely there would be plenty of Black and Hispanic men in this type of fighting club. I guess they were in the background at Dean's training gym, hm? It's kind of ridiculous that all these guys are white and no Black person makes an appearance in any way shape or form in any of the stories. Now, I don't necessarily care, but I DO think it shows a weakness of the author's worldbuilding and perhaps a shallowness of her life experience that she can't write in a couple of recurring characters (that's plural- this is KY, a former slave state- there are plenty of Black folks around, I'm sure.) at the hotel front desk, working the bar, or rewrite Haggerty's character. It was possible. But hey, I'd rather she leave it out the diveristy if she can't do a credible job. So, maybe I should be saying kudos to her for playing to her stregnths. Whatever. I checked all these books out from the library, or got them for free so I expended no money- it's all good.

Ok, I liked this book, and I hate myself for liking it. Because the whole "they can never be together" gig is kind of...not working for me. Reminds me too much of Romeo and Juliet, and I HATE Romeo and Juliet. Just putting it out there. And the girl, she's all "OMG I hate him!" in the beginning, it was kind of funny ^_^. And then, few scenes later, she's all "WHY CAN'T WE BE TOGETHER????". Really? Like dude, really? And the main guy, Lucas...I don't love him. I like Hector and Jason way way way better. Where are Lucas's flaws? Where???? I don't see nothing, and I hate perfect guys! They're just nauseating. (I sound like such a hater, hah) But the reason why I liked the thing...the writing style was pure awesome. I made my sister stay up at night so I could finish the thing. And I like reading the thing, but the main plot line was kind of...not awesome.
