Sandweiss could have used a better editor. The writing wasn’t great, but the story of deception and crossing the color line from white to black, instead of the more common black to white, was interesting.

I laughed aloud at tottering blue shoes and discussions of Superman. Mma Ramostwe continues to build a philosphy of life based on the old Botswana morality. Mma Kutse has her happiness threatened. I enjoy listening to these books and reccomend the Audio Books collection. Lisette Lecatte is perfect as the reader.

What a great book. Louis Zamperini is one of the "Greatest Generation" and he proves it. Once on the path to be the first man to beat the 4 minute mile, he is sidetracked by WWII and being a Japanese POW. The mistreatment and starvation ruin his health but he survives and gets home. The psychological damage is done and it takes him several years to find his way back to mental health. He lives into his 90's. Very compelling story and you can't put it down.

At this point, I am starting to think my enjoyment of Blood Bound was a complete fluke and that this series is just bad. My problem with this book is the same problem I had with Iron Kissed, only it got worse in this novel. The characters and writing style were fine but the plot of Bone Crossed was a mess. The vampire queen finds out that Mercy killed one of her vampires, so Mercy takes off from the city to go visit a friend who just happens to call her with a little problem. The friend's house is haunted. So Mercy heads off to the friend's house, with Stefan the vampire in tow, and proceeds to become a midnight snack for a totally different vampire. Oh, and the vampire that is snacking on Mercy is somehow related to the ghosts. What??? It was so confusing and not even interesting! Ugh! I was so frustrated with this book! It was so disappointing. I am going to try one more Mercy Thompson book and if things do not improve then I am done with this series. I don't enjoy feeling like I am wasting my reading time.

I loved the idea of cleaning lady as detective. I also appreciated that this was a gentle mystery. Most of all I loved the setting, which had more parallels to my little American mountain town than I expected.

Guess I just have weird taste. I feel like the author "babbles" a lot in-between important sentences, which causes you to fall out of the whole flow of the story.

I couldn't put it down, but there were a few things that bothered me about it that I'm still trying to put into words. I wish most of the white characters hadn't been so one-dimensional. Even Skeeter seemed less fully realized than the maids. Really engrossing book but a little flawed in my opinion.
