The world of Nostradamus, to me, has always been riddled with mystery. This book seems to explain how he used alchemy and word games to predict events. It mentions the "akashic chronicles", which, to the spiritualist/cabbalist, is a ribbon of "memory" of events which surrounds the earth, written by "recording angels"!!!

I liked the mystery and plot of this WWII story, but passages such as "British childen are usually ever so polite, and they always obey adults whenever they can..." were frequent throughout the book, which got a bit tiresome. Other than that, I really enjoyed this book.

Taibbi explains complicated financial dealings so well and in such an entertaining manner that it's hard not to enjoy this book. And I also appreciate his central argument -- that all of those Wall Street crooks should go to jail.

This is the best book I have read in 2011. I probably won't find a better one this year. This gem of a book took me on an emotional roller coaster. I laughed out loud. I cried tears that ran down my face. I rooted for the main character, Caitlin, and her father. Even though this book is geared toward elementary children (4-6), I think just about any teen or adult can appreciate this touching story. I want to find a way to teach it in my 10th grade classroom. Do yourself a favor and read this book! (I blazed through it in 2-3 hours. I'm not even sure of the exact time because I was so absorbed. I started it right before bed, woke up early on Sunday morning to read more, went to church, came back and finished it before lunch.)

I'm not much for thrillers, I'm a coward, I admit it, This one, however, had me hooked from start to finish, even though it did give me nightmares. With engaging, although not always likeable, characters, you find yourself feeling sorry for heros and villains alike because they are all so deceived. Except for one, and even he doesn't make it out the story unscathed. It also is an allegory for the way sin can start so small, but can grow so out of control that it eventually devours you. This book is not gorey, but it will scare you. That is why I only read it once, but as I said, I'm a coward

For a long time, these books were the only things that worked on my panic attacks. Now that I have xanax, I still treasure them still for the arch humor, the gothic sensibility, and the very important moral lessons they impart. Like, that a well-read person is less likely to be evil (with the important exception of Ayn Rand fans).

I wish the author wrote a bit more about elephants in biological and behavioural terms. There was a little too much info about Asian elephants and how it tied into Indian culture and history for my liking. But, you read this, and other information about elephants, and you get even more disgusted seeing them perform no more than demeaning tricks in circuses for the entertainment value of the ignorant masses, bullied and abused into unnatural behaviour.
