I did not read White Cat, the first in the series, and, although this novel stands pretty well on it's own, it would definitely be made better by reading the first book. There are many references to events that happened previously that aren't fully clear without the background of the first. We meet Cassel Sharpe, a "worker", which seems to be a group of people who have special powers available to them with the touch of their hands, so everyone must wear gloves. A lot of workers run con games (including Cassel and his family, including his mother), others work for organized crime, and others try to stay under the radar to keep their ability from being known, as workers are generally regarded with fear and contempt. Cassel goes to Wallington, a private high school. The girl that he loves, Lila Zacharov, the daughter of a crime boss, also goes to the same school (although there appears to have been a period of years where she was caged as a cat, but that was never fully explained in this book). Cassel's mother "worked" Lila to fall in love with Cassel, so now Cassel can't allow himself to have a relationship with her, because he thinks her feelings for him are a result of his mother's machinations. Cassel is the rarest kind of worker, a transformation worker (he can change people to objects), and his talents have been abused by his family, and have also made Zacharov want him to join his crime family. The Feds are also after Cassel, although they aren't aware of his talents; they just want him to become an informant for them. With murder, a thwarted love, suspicion, and a fight against mandatory testing to find out if someone is a worker, there is a lot going on in this novel, and it was an interesting read. I was, however, somewhat lost here and there with not having read the first book in the series, which takes points off for me. If you've read White Cat, however, you won't have those problems, and will probably really like this one. QUOTE: There is technically nothing illegal about bare hands. I found this book to be extremely corney and unrealistic. It was a sweet (maybe a little too sweet) story of 7 women who decide to start walking for no apparent reason, and though, as a woman, I was somehow supposed to magically understand what the hell they were doing, I really only found the whole thing annoying and tedious. The message of how powerful and wonderful women are is a little over done and sugary. I found it tough to get into and even tougher to actually finish because I never cared about the characters enough to remember their names or even be able to distinguish between them. Radish makes a point to give them each a different back story, but makes the mistake of giving them all the same exact voice. The writing seemed forced, phoney, too heavy on female friendship love, and too light on an actual point. 2 stars is the most I could muster.

Alright, where to begin? Hmmmm.... Disclaimer: spoilers...if you haven't read it, don't read my review. Disclaimer #2: I am a shameless Eric fan. Alright, here goes. First thing is first, poor Crystal. I know, she's not a nice girl. But, what a way to go. And, I've decided that there are too many fairies that are decidedly evil. Cutting people up? That's just terrible. I am very sad about Tray and Claudine also. And, even though I wasn't very attached to him, Mel also. Ms. Harris did have me laughing too though. My faves are the Russell Crowe comment, Bobby Burnham's delivery to Sookie when he says "Here I am. Being polite." Hunter's comment to Remy's girlfriend Kristen. My *THUD* moments with Eric: "I've shored up my authority. I can have my own life now. It's time I claimed what is mine." When he's with Sookie: "This is best. This is best. This is right." And although a little possessive: "Your great-granddaughter is my woman, mine and mine alone. I'll take her to her home." Finally, I like the Eric backstory revelations, married with six kids? Three that survived. Wow. Eric's revelation that he would be near his heart's desire without knowing it when under Hallow's spell, and he ran towards Sookie's house. :) Tara's motherly determination plan. Her skillful way of putting her friend Sookie at ease. The Clancy lives on in Bill comment. Pam's quiet whisper to Eric "As you live on in Sookie." Is Eric in some kind of danger? I mean, more than usual? Although I am not a Bill fan, I am glad he survived. I would have cried. And Niall's acceptance of the vampire who is not a bad man, and he loves her. I'm thinking although Bill loves Sookie, he has to mean Eric. Because as far as I know the only time Niall was alone with Bill and they could have discussed such a thing is when they were looking for Sookie. I really hope he means Eric though. Team Eric all the way. Can't wait a whole year! I'm going to go mad! :)

This is by far the worst book I have ever read. I believe that I frequently threw it across the room while reading it, which is a testament to my stubborness because I still finished it. The main character of the book has an interesting history, but everything becomes convoluted when he changes sexes in the middle of the book (not through a sex change: the character unexplainably becomes a woman). The writing is strong and paints beautiful pictures, but the plot was too twisted for me to enjoy.
