I don't get why this is so well regarded. It's a simple point-for-point allegory of the Russian revolution and its subsequent betrayal by Stalin which adds nothing to one's understanding of the events. I guess "Some animals are more equal than others" is a nifty epitome of Stalinism, but honestly, it doesn't justify slogging through this simple-minded recap.

The plot didn't keep me coming back to finish this book, but Ava and her unflinching honesty did.

I don't know where this book was going...I'm not quite sure what the book is trying to say. All I know is that each chapter is filled with hilarious constant contradiction. It caused laughter to burst from my lips and for me to recreate pranks described within its pages. This isn't just catch-22...its catch-22 x 100!! It is a bombardment that will burn in your memory the meaning of the title.

I will admit to having read this book instead of reading Moby Dick. So I don't know if the woman who narrates this book is mentioned much at all by Melville, but it mixes real American history with the fictional history of Melville's book in a very convincing, powerful, and readable (!) manner. Una, Ahab's wife, lives through the Second Great Awakening, meets the Transcendentalists, survives a disaster at sea and the trial of waiting in Nantucket for her husband to return. The storytelling is meaty and languorous and the way it twines around the themes and figures that everyone knows from American literature and history (even without having read the original) is fascinating aside from the power of the original narrative.

Lovely fair-isle and intarsia patterns inspired by nature. I'll use some of the patterns, I think, although I can't see myself doing any of the sweaters exactly as prescribed. I'm like that sometimes.

5th in the Chronicles of Pyrdain series (favorite of my children's materials prof, who knows a LOT about kidlit) it's like lord of the rings except more emphasis on the characters instead of the quest, although the latter is still prominent. also it's a grand story about friendship.

How do I explain what made me love Everneath so very much? It wasn't just the characters, who are so realistic that you can feel their emotions emanating from the page. In fact it wasn't just even the amazing story line that had me reading voraciously. It was the two of these things blended together, my ability to get lost inside Nikki's story, that left me breathless at the end. Everneath is beautiful, plain and simple. Every story has a heroine, and this one is no different. I fell in love with Nikki from the very beginning. Her emotions were so palpable and real. Even when she made decisions I didn't quite agree with, I saw her motivations behind. Everything about her was so selfless. Flanking her on either side are two very different boys with two very different motivations. I loved Jack. Can I say that again? I loved him. He is the epitome of what we all want in a relationship. Sweet, giving, unshakable in his loyalty. His story with Nikki blew me away. Then there is Cole who, even though he is technically the "villian", I just couldn't help but love. There is so much wrapped up in his character that despite how he acts sometimes he is just too broken to dislike. These stunning characters are placed in an even more gorgeous story line, as Brodi Ashton whisks us away into the story of the Everneath. I'm not going to share any details that might be spoilers. I believe that this is the type of book you'll just have to experience for yourself. Still, I could not believe how perfectly Ashton blended myth with reality. Nikki's story mirrors a myth almost perfectly and, even when you know what's going to ultimately happen, she provides enough hope to keep you hanging on. Love plays a big part in this story. The link between two people who love each other so much that time, nor space, can separate them. It broke my heart with its beauty. Reading Everneath was effortless, if that makes any sense. It was such a pleasure to turn every page that it was almost like I wasn't reading at all. What Brodi Ashton has created within this pages is absolutely wonderful. There is no way I can explain to you why this book touched me so much, only that it did. I ended the story with tears in my eyes and something beyond a need to find out what happens next. More of an ache. I haven't been as in love as I am with these characters in a long, long time. That alone makes Everneath one of my top reads, not just of the year but of all time. If you are a hopeless romantic, if you are a fan of mythology, or if you just enjoy rooting for the good in the world, this is a book you'll enjoy. I recommend Everneath with all my heart.

I adore this book because of the journey you take with Holly as she works through her grief with Gerry's help beyond the grave. From the depths of sadness to the hopeful steps Holly makes out of the darkness, I love how emotionally involved I became reading PS, I Love You. This is one of five books EVER that made me cry and I am not a crier by nature.

This book was so hard to read for me - and it was a short one too! I really like the world that SK has created but the gods are boring to me. Leta and Aidan's relationship sort of comes out of left field, and it just didn't ring true. Aidan had an amazing amount of venom in him, and within hours he and Leta were hooking up and in love? I guess it could and does happen all the time in novels, but it didn't work for me here. I also get tired of the wink-nudge "i'm a god" attitude of the gods. I am losing steam with this series, but I am going to persevere until I at least get to Acheron. :(
