I'm trying to figure out a way to describe this book, and only two things come to mind. One would be another novel, The Nanny Diaries, and the other, the movie Legally Blonde-- more specifically, the quote from the movie, "This is gonna be just like senior year, except for funner." This novel? Is just like The Nanny Diaries, except for way, way better. And Black. And completely and totally brave, as one of the blurbs on the back of the cover says. Wow.

Thank goodness for the illustrations, because I wouldn't have enjoyed following the text without them. It was very interesting learning the procedure for building a cathedral, and I'm in awe of what the people had to go through to accomplish it. I was especially interested in the process the glass makers used to create the colored glass windows.

This was my least favorite of all four books of the Twilight Saga, but that doesn't make it a bad book. In fact, i thought it was very well written, and Stephenie Meyer, instead of writing what she wanted her characters to do, wrote what her characters would do. She developed her characters so well in the first book, Twilight, that she had less room to manipulate them.

This was a fresh read for me, it's story incomparable to any others I've read. It was just as intense as it was romantic, in a YA sense. Die For Me was well thought of and written by the author.

Linda Howard's story 4 stars-- the Mackenzie's are great. I love them. I wish Maris had had a whole book but it did work out well, she just loved Mac. I really enjoyed the end when we see the whole big Mackenzie family. I love Joe but Zane is starting to grow on me. Debbie Macomber's story 2 stars-- the people in this story did not hold my interest at all. The guy, Philip was a jerk the whole story. I have no idea how the girl fell in love. Linda Turner's story 4 stars--- I really liked this one. The family sounded like fun. It makes me want to go and find their stories. I just think Wyatt should have had to work harder and be a little more contrite.

This is a beautifully written book by an iconic Canadian author. It describes life on the Canadian prairies during the 1920, as seen through the eyes of a small boy. The descriptive passages are lovely and the character development gives us an insight into the people who lives the simple life of those long ago times. A charming read.

Set in South Africa and told through the eyes of a little white girl. The backdrop of the story is set in times before and after apartheid, but it concentrates on ordinary relationships between black and white people. Because it’s told through a child’s point of view, the language can be playful (and for this reason sometimes annoying). But more often, descriptions are thorough and comment on the social dynamics of that period. There are better novels out there about apartheid issues.
