Love Dan Simmons - he writes well across many genres (science fiction, horror, fantasy). This book is very different from any other he's written.

Obviously, there's little I need to say about "Walden" except that this edition was illustrated by my Uncle, and he's quite the accomplished New England wood-cut engraving artist. Thoreau would be proud.

I cant even say I like Pushkin, because his presence is so much more than that

I was thinking “3-stars” through the first 1/3 of this book. I was somewhat enjoying the story, but wondered where it was going and when we’d get there. Somewhere along the line, I grew attached to “Dex and Em, Em and Dex” and upgraded to 4-stars. Even when the story itself seemed a bit sluggish, the dialog is real and smart, often witty, and kept me going and loving the characters, concerned for their lives, their well-being and their future. Sometimes sad, sometimes funny – a good story. (Audio version)

I hadn't read this book in a very long time. I just recently re-read it and it broke my heart. A beautiful and sad book.

After visiting the town of Wethersfield, Connecticut, where this book takes place, I decided to re-read it. Since I first read it decades ago, I had completely forgotten the plot, so it was like reading a brand-new book! Although it is classified as a young adult book, I think anyone would enjoy it. It is very well written, with likable, rich characters and an interesting plot. I would definitely recommend it!

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card (2002) tells the story of a young boy bred and trained to lead Earth's armies in an intergalactic conflict. Every part of his childhood is monitored and controlled: without freedom, will he mature sufficiently to eradicate Earth's enemies? A recurring conflict, introduced early, is that Ender is forced, by situation and logic, to be violent. For example, when bullied by classmates, the only solution he sees to avoid recurrences of bullying is to make an example of their ringleader by visiting extreme violence upon him. As he grows as an efficient strategist, will Ender be able to maintain his humanity?
