What a great book about an amazing bridge. I few diagrams or pictures would have helped us non-engineering people to understand some of the technical details. Other than that, as always, McCullough makes historic events interesting and compelling to read about.

My second favorite book! Sarah Gruen really did her research on such a strange yet fascinating part of history. She puts the reader right in there with the traveling circus. You can really feel how gritty, dirty, exciting, and fast paced this lifestyle was.

Bill Bryson has been an enormously popular author both for his travel books and for his books on the English language. Now, this beloved comic genius turns his attention to science. Although he doesn't know anything about the subject (at first), he is eager to learn, and takes information that he gets from the world's leading experts and explains it to us in a way that makes it exciting and relevant.

Had kind of a hard time rating this. There's a couple of reasons why: 1. The plot is actually very good. It's interesting and fun. It might not be totally original, but I still liked Allison Pang's take on it. I liked the relationship between Abby and Ion. 2. I felt like a lot of stuff was very poorly written and explained. After reading the book I still have no clue what a 'TouchStone' or 'KeyStone' is and why the Other-creatures need them. And I also didn't understand the whole (view spoiler) It was very confusing at times. 3. I think there were a lot of unnecessary characters in this. They felt very flat and useless to the story. But it might have something to do whit the way they were described (or lack thereof). And what was up with that ridiculous horny miniature unicorn?! All in all I still think it was a good book, but it wasn't fantastic. It could have been written much much better. So therefore I gave it 3 stars, but that's mainly rating the plot.

A childhood favorite of mine, I found this copy at a used bookstore. Though both my parents thought I was crazy, I paid the forty books for this copy just because it was old and beautiful. I love my parents, but they're not book people like me. I love just the simplicity of Heidi. There is no huge plot twists or flashy things drawing readers in. It's just a story about a girl and her grandfather and the little home they share. It's a story about love and friendship and family. It's about taking a grumpy old man and turning his heart soft. It's about being a friend to a sick little girl even at costs to yourself. Most of all, it's a story of kindness. The world needs more stories like Heidi's. I always recommend Heidi. Anybody, and I mean anybody, can read Heidi and understand it. The language doesn't play tricks. It means what it says, and I say it's awesome.
