Beautiful prose, amazing tale of courage and love. Don't miss out reading this just because it was made into a movie.

I honestly wanted to like this book, but after having read One Hundred Years of Solitude (which was a work of pure genius), I was disappointed to find so many similarities between it and this book. It tries very hard to be One Hundred Years of Solitude, but can't quite come up to par. By the end it felt like a huge rip off to me.

I had trouble starting this book, but now I can't put it down. Extremely well-written with a dynamic use of vocabulary. Very entertaining and amusing.

WOW. Usually when I read a series of books, there's at least one of the books that's a little bit disappointing or not as good as the others. That was definitely not the case with these books. Each book was fantastic. And what's even more impressive is that they were great for entirely different reasons. I've already raved about the first two books and the third book is just a good, if not better. This book was so EXCITING. I ripped through the pages because I could not believe what was happening next and next and next...(can you tell I really liked Ness' writing?) There were very few times when I could guess what was going to happen - and none of the events felt ridiculous or forced or like a trick to keep me reading (even though it did). Everything that happened was true to the characters and therefore made the story entirely believable. It was devastating and heart-wrenching, but thrilling and beautiful at the same time. I highly recommend these books to anyone and everyone.

My rating: 5/5 stars Remember to stop by my blog! *May contain some spoilers* I didn't have a clue, what kind of book this would be, when I borrowed it from my library. I just checked the frontcover and thought that it looked nice and simple, black with one white feather flowing. Though I was scared, that since it has 553 pages, I would never actually read the book. Luckily, this isn't what happened. As I said in my earlier post, I was reading Finnish edition, and had to start this book twice. First time I only read first 16 pages, and was exhausted. I thought that this book isn't for me, that it's just way too slow. The second time I jumped to where I left first time, and it took only two more pages to turn _really_ interesting. After that I couldn't stop reading. Seriously. The story really took me over. It's truly wonderfull to find this kind of book, these are rare and just.. worth reading. The main character is a girl named Rebecca. Occasionally she's a little silly and/or childish, but that doesn't really bother me, which is nice for a change. Usually I'm just rolling my eyes and thinking "man, aren't you a silly one..". I could just feel her pain, when she was apart from Lucian. Only thing, I didn't like so much, was the ending. It was really really short, only few pages, and I could've just kept reading. But then again, if I love a book, I don't want it to end ever. Because I feel like I'm losing a friend when the story ends. I'm also a sucker for happy endings, so I did actually cry in the end, when Lucian wasn't human anymore. I need that Cinderella-ending "and they lived happily ever after". Overall, I need to buy a copy for myself. I need this book to my bookshelf. My bookshelf isn't perfect without this book. Love, Monaliz @ Mind Reading?

This is a Memoir written about a girl named Miriam, and her life growing up in the ghetto of alexandra during the Apartheid in South Africa. I found this book interesting. If you have any doubts about the importance of education you should read this book. Education is freedom.

Amazingly enough I've never read this. And I haven't put it down since I've started. If you can deal with "ye olde" language.. which I admit there have been a few parts I'd have to go back and reread to grasp the understanding. But I am thoroughly enjoying it. It won't be much longer till I finish.

Since I grew up as a white middle-class male in Houston, TX, race was not something that I really thought a lot about as I grew up. The older I get - and the more friends of different races, cultures, creeds, etc. I make - the more I seek to understand others. As I try to understand stories of others, I always pray that my reaction would be Biblical, and I find that these reactions are sometimes not the same as my visceral reactions. Piper does a solid job of addressing racism, specifically black-white racism, in this book. He tells of how he was raised a racist, but that God, through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, showed him the sin of his heart and guided him, through the Holy Spirit, out of racism. The South Carolina-born Piper adopted a black daughter, wrote a paper on the God-glorifying effects of interracial marriage, and now has written Bloodlines. I am grateful that I was able to read it. Loved it.
