I really enjoyed hearing about the young man's travels and the people he met along the way. However, I was sad about the fact that he completely cut his family out of his life. I also thought the movie did a great job to go along with the book. It's rare to see a book and movie so close together.

Ugh! I thought it was kinda cool that it started out in poem format, but when I kept reading and found out the entire thing is written in poem... I put it down and I doubt very much I'll ever finish reading it. Not my thing.

I read this book as a read-aloud to my 3rd grade students. I loved it...... it was actually kind of interesting to have both the child (them) and adult(mine) perspective going on at the same time. Much of it went over their heads, but they were still able to enjoy the basic storyline. I also got to practice my Spanish skills :)

This book, like every truly great book, keeps you thinking well beyond when you close the cover. This is another book that would offer a lot of discussion to book groups. I think it's also a book that should be read at different stages of your life. I'm sure if I was in my teens I would take something else away from it than I do reading it as an adult with two young men about to enter the world of middle school. It's amazing to me too, when you think about it, who is really running the show? Much of this book may be applied on a much broader scale than teenage/high school years. Hmmm!

** spoiler alert ** This novel was pretty good. Although in my opinion I liked Life As We Knew It better. But the way Alex protected his sister Bri and Julie without his parents was amazing. At the beginning I had hope that his Mami would come back, or that Alex would hear from her at some point. But once I read that the subways had flooded and people had died in the subway tunnels, I knew their Mami was dead. It amazed me how strong Alex was for Bri and Julie. When Bri died, it didn't bother me, because for me she wasn't all that big of a character in the story. Pfeffer thought this story out really well. It was amazing. But what I noticed in this novel was that there was less details about the actual asteroid colliding with the moon. So, it was kind of like you had to read Life As We Knew It first. Anyways, all in all this was a phenomenal read.
