i had an american history professor that said, given anything he could assign to a class about the tragedy at my lai, he would pick this book. brilliant, haunting. not one of o'brien's most popular, though i definitely don't know why.

This is a great book. Very imaginitive and with interesting charachters. There is a huge suprise at the end that I didn't see coming, but maybe that's because I'm horrible at predicting stuff like that. The main problem I had with this book is that you don't get to know the characters well. Gavin and Kendra are supposed to be attracted to each other, but they barely talk and I just don't see how that's romantic.

I can hardly remember the book anymore because the movie was SO effective. This has to be one of King's masterpieces, though. Some of his books seem to touch on larger aspects of humanity and deal with some more universal themes. This is definitely one of them.

I liked this book, but I think I would have liked it better if it were more focused. Too many characters that I didn't develop much of an interest in and not enough background on the various mythical and historical personages that played a role. Good, quick read but no lasting impression.
