I should probably qualify why I waited so long to review the book. I have been trying to decide whether this book was four or five star worthy. I've settled on four. I feel that the book was well written and that it was exciting enough -- but looking back on the ending and the epilogue, I feel that it was actually a bit weak. I think that Rowling tried to hard to please everyone rather than going for the ending as it should have been. That is as much as I can say without adding spoilers, so, I'm done.

** spoiler alert ** I wasnt to sure about this book going into it. I was however, plesantly surprised. The story of the Knights Templar was pulled me in a number of directions. Hope, love, Loss. Billi had to grow up fast, not only loosing her mother, but basically her father as well, and the one person she does finds, and would probably have a wonderful life and love with, dies to protect her. I couldn't help but tear up a bit at the end.

Reviewed by http://urbanfantasyinvestigations.blo... I gave it 3.5 stars Ive been surprised by many books that I have read so far this year and BLACK BLADE BLUES was no exception. I wasn't really excited to read it, it was sitting on my TBR table for months, I just couldn't think of any reason why I would like the book from the description. Although I thought the pacing was a bit slow at times I enjoyed following along in Sarah's story. Sarah was raised by very strict religious parents and has doubts and issues with her self and her sexuality. She didn't believe in anything supernatural or part of the fantasy world until things started happening to her after she reforged her favorite blade. The characters were all interesting. I think character development was strong and in place through out the book. There is some great action scenes as well as Sarah helps beat down the bad guys. If your looking for something a little different in the Urban Fantasy Genre with a fresh new heroine this is a fun read with some neat Norse Mythology thrown in to it.

I don't remember the story as well as I remember incidents in the story that almost seem to serve as metaphors. (Though they may only seem like metaphors because I can't remember the entire plot). A very entertaining writer in an reportedly good translation.

I actually listened to this one on tape, and loved it. I am not sure if I had not listened to it, I would have enjoyed it as much. Their was so much going on, with so many characters that I think listening to it made it easier to keep together in my mind. Plus the reader had a lovely voice with incredible inflection. I know a lot of people do not view listening to a book on tape to be the same as reading it (which it is not) but in my mind I am still ingesting the story. I did enjoy this one very much.

My class is totally into this book right now. The CAI donated a class set of this book to my room after I wrote them a "persuasive letter" via email. The kids are brainstorming ways to say "Thank You" for the donation and every chapter leaves them with more and more to be thankful for!
