I have to admit, it was better than I thought it would be. Yes, it's a bit silly, but it IS a retelling of a fairy tale, and i think it was well written. I don't usually like books written in boys POV, but this worked out well.

I finally read it! I enjoyed it -- really great engrossing yet fairly mindless vacation read. I just wish it had been a little shorter...took me half the vacation to finish it!

I did not enjoy reading this book, more than likely because it was not in modern times and was not an origional or unheard of idea. The characters were very blunt to me, and it did not hold my at attention very well. The plot line was of a child whose dad would not let him play football, and how the dad also cheated on his wife. These to me are not origional ideas, and plus the wording and context of the literature was just not advanced enough for me. Plus, the book was very short, and i like long drawn out plot lines.

This has been on my downloaded books for some time. I am into the book about a third through and I finding this very interesting. The format is unusual. It is a series of letters between a writer in London after WWII and a reading club on Guernsey Island which was occupied by German forces during the war. The writing is in the kind of witty and casual style that was once common for literate people. Enjoyable to read.

This book was the best book I ever read. It had a great balance of adventure, excitment, and romance. The ending left me wanting to read more. When it started reading this book, I hated to read. Now that I've finished it. I can't wait to get my hands on book two(city of Ashes) and start reading. I LOVE THIS BOOOOOOOOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love getting books from GoodReads contests. I find author's I might never have looked at before. Quite a bit of humor follows the adventures of Radar, Allie & Mirplo (a group of grifters who came together in the author's first book, The California Roll). Even though I had a pretty good idea what was really going on, there were more than enough twists and turns to keep my head spinning. I would recommend reading the first book to get to know the characters first. There's not a lot of back story in this book on the characters, just quick references to the first book. I think they were likely fleshed out there. I plan to go back and read The California Roll and I look forward to the next book.
