This was another easy read - a cute follow up to "A Long Way from Chicago." I enjoyed the perspective from Maryalice and you can see her becomming a little more like the Grandma. Like the other book, it is a fun surprise to see what tricks Grandma Dowdel has up her sleeves!

My ma was after me to read this, so now she'll be happy. I'm shamed to say I didn't really even know where Guernsey was. I just thought it was a cow! :0 So the map was good. It's really close to France. No wonder the Nazis were pickin' on them! I had some trouble keeping track of all the different froms and tos of the letters, but this was really good. And I learned some things, which I hadn't expected. Jeanette, I know you think this is fluff, but you should really read it. You would like the historical nature.

Why is this book interesting? Three words: PLOT IS VINTAGE. It's one of those books that get you tied up to the descriptive details. The character of Jacob is also interesting, how drastic his life has changed overnight. Some people may bash on this book but I see how deep Sarah Gruen went over the facts and details. Most of the ideas in the book were based on reality, that was truly a plus point.

I really love these historical fictions of the Tudor era. I literally feel like I travel back in time and am a part of the story. But really, why must Gregory's books be soooo lonnnnggg? I'm even starting to get tired of this read and Ann Boleyn hasn't even been beheaded yet! Nonetheless, I am giving it 4 stars because I love settling down at the end of the day and reading a few chapters.

Clean and interesting. It's a good book, but it never really grabbed me like some books can. Mysterious time travel novel with some teenage romance (I'm afraid these parts were cheesy).

Great story. Had to suspend my disbelief a little in the beginning, but became hooked quickly. I'm not usually one for a sappy love story, and this is a huge love story, but I couldn't put this book down after the first few chapters. I guess the way that time unfolds made it easy to not get so wrapped up in the love story. Not surprisingly it was an incredibly sad ending, but left some hope that things continued. This is another one I liked so much I gave it as a gift.

Not quite as good as "A Fine Balance" but still a really good read. Interesting to learn a bit about the Parsi community in India, but the characters are also really endearing. In my opinion the second best Mistry novel.
