One of my all time favorites. This historical fiction gives a perspective of reality to life in the time of Christ (and Mary Magdelene)

Really 3.5 stars... The choppy vignette style of this book kept it less than accessible for me and it just didn't speak to me as clearly as other books of this sort that I've read. I agreed with the general message and really appreciated the guides to meditation and prayer at the end. I'm not sure why Broken Open didn't get me in the heart, but it just didn't.

I credit this book with making me into the person I am today.
so this is her masterpiece apparently, and it was one of the last things i got around to reading by her. it makes sense it is--the best thing about colette is her vivid description of sensory experience and little daily luxuries, and such descriptions abound here and are very strong, even for her. also makes me understand why proust admired her--the best things he does with the sensual aspects of memory she does here. a truly pleasurable read.

A shorter, more down to earth, version of the Lord Of the Rings. The series: 1) The Book Of Three 2) The Black Cauldron 3) The Castle of Llyr 4) Taran Wanderer 5) The High King

One of my favorite Toni Morrison books. Beautifully crafted. Brilliantly poetic, yet without being devoid of purpose, which poetic fiction often can be...

Emma is definitely one of my least favorite heroines of Jane Austen fame, but I can see why this could be Austen's most masterful work. Austen weaves a story through English class/caste system that leaves me wanting to throw my book across the room (or straight at Emma Woodhouse) in frustration at her simple mindedness. However I am left with evaluating my own life days after the reading realizing maybe Emma and I are more alike than I want to admit. Bravo Jane Austen!

Another great book by Charles Martin. He has a gift for creating characters that you wish you had in your life. I did not fall in love with this one like I did Chasing Fireflies. However, I read Chasing Fireflies in the summer. Summer reading is a whole different kind of reading for me. Charles Martin's books need to be experienced and savored, not just read. They make you reflect.
