Kind of garbagey. Inauthentic in the same way as the Kite Runner, but less well written. Really, a romance novel in circus garb.

I found this book really engrossing. It's written as if the main character is in constant conversation with you (she's kind of vapid and gossipy but she knows everyone else's dirt so you want to hear what she has to say). The chapters are long and there are no paragraph breaks, which might make it difficult for some people to get into, but makes it very easy to get lost in. It's a great look into El Salvador and its political and societal unrest. If you're not too familiar with the country, I'd suggest reading Joan Didion's Salvador... a book I read years ago, but that really helped me understand this one better. Plus, Joan Didion is awesome. I've had the pleasure of meeting Horacio (he lives in my neighborhood), and he's a really nice, down to earth guy who came to Pittsburgh to escape persecution in El Salvador through City of Asylum/Pittsburgh. So as an added bonus, by supporting Horacio you're supporting free speech (and great literature)!

Anne Lamont has done it [for me] again! She is one of my favorite contemporary authors...the honesty in her writing describes ordinary emotional subtleties in a way that make them blast off the page in technicolor. She is also a Bay Area native, so the imagery and setting are familiar. This is a non-fiction, autobiographical work of hers.

Another crime thriller from Jo Nesbo that sucks you straight into the heart of the novel. The threads that link each Nesbo book to the previous ones in the series are a good way to get a deeper understanding of the characters involved (while no doubt also acting as useful sales tool for previous books!) In The Snowman, Harry Hole is the same engagingly messed-up protagonist who you want to follow through his investigation as he battles as much with his own demons as he does with the quest for the truth. Betrayal is at the heart of this novel, and relationships between lovers, husbands and wives, parents and children and colleagues all fall under the microscope as betrayal and deception twist them.

Book one of the Cynster series is still amongst my favorite romance novel reads. Certainly the main character's nickname, Devil, borders on the ludicrous. However, the cheekiness works well with Ms. Laurens witty storytelling and the sensuality of the more intimate naughty bits makes this a prime read for Regency romance-lovers.

It's a funny book about life with their mother after the death of their father. Their mother had to work to support her 11 children during the early part of the 20th century.

In the end, I liked this book, but it's pretty wierd. It has a couple of graphic scenes that I didn't think necessary and I didn't like. It also took a long time to get into, probably due to the fact that it is a translation from a swedish book. I am still debating if I will read the next one.

Loved the book, but it took some time getting through it since there are 973 pages! Looking forward to now reading the sequel.

Why am I so fascinated by stories of people who move to other countries, restore houses there, and find their emotional homes? Clarke weaves Moroccan history, culture and customs into the adventure of buying and restoring her house. It is named Riad Zany after her childhood nickname, but it also seems apt to buying a house in a country where one doesn't speak the language.

This book is so tough to review without giving away major spoilers. The beginning of the book deals a lot with Eugienie's pregnancy which was too be expected. She is still undecided about trusting Dorian, and worried about keeping the babies safe. Kiyo doesn't make an appearance until the middle of the book and doesn't really redeem himself at all!!! I did like most of the book, but I wasn't too thrilled with the ending. I am kind of hoping we may get a spin off about the twins! I think maybe that would wrap up some loose ends I am curious about!
