I was very please when I received The New Frugality. The book is a very easy read, however, not much new information or ideas if you are big on economics in today's society.

Danielle steel is just good for when you are not in the mood of serious books, and need a book to read and during the reading think about hundered other things. Don't waste your money on buying them, just find a friend who is interested in, and then borrow them, read once and then forget it!!!

Honestly, the thing that surprised me about this book was that I didn’t hate it! I had initially rolled my eyes at the idea of a book written entirely in chatspeak, but I admit that I was being curmudgeonly. For anyone wary of deciphering the chatspeak, it’s not that bad—there are some “ur”s and a handful of other abbreviations, along with a lack of capitalization for several characters, but doesn’t require a chat-to-English dictionary. The book is about a trio of girls, best friends for years, dealing with teenage troubles in tenth grade. (Sorry, I like alliteration…) Over the course of the book, the happy-go-lucky Angela has boy troubles, sweet Zoe finds religion and an overly-friendly teacher, and sarcastic Maddie makes a two-faced friend. The book is a very quick read, being entirely written in chat logs, and the three friends are realistic, likable characters. It’s frustrating when they do extremely stupid things—they even call each other on it—but it’s certainly realistic. I can see why this book is a magnet for censorship attempts, too. The characters talk about sex, one considers losing their virginity, and another gets very close to a teacher with bad intentions. (view spoiler) All in all, this book could be great for reluctant girl readers; the relationships between the friends ring true and all three of their storylines are interesting.

As with all Madeleine L'Engle books I've read, I enjoyed this book. I love how she describes the growth processes that Vicky goes through. She always take me back in time a bit. I was actually surprise to see the book was published in the 90s, because I was envisioning it taking place earlier in my head, but I guess it could have been too much earlier, because the splitting of the Soviet Union had already happened. She definitely packs the book with social and political themes, but I don't have a problem with learning what she cares about and thinks is important. I really enjoyed the descriptions of Antarctica and all the different kind of penguins. I think this is a very solid young adult novel with a bit of mystery and suspense.

A bewitching story about the women in the 'Sparrow' family. Each woman is born in the month of March and upon turning 13 years of age, they discover which unusual "gift" they have been given. From back cover: "The women of the Sparrow family have lived in New England for generations. Each is born in the month of March, and at the age of thirteen, each develops an unusual gift. Elinor can literally smell a lie. Her daughter, Jenny, can see people's dreams as they're dreaming them. Granddaughter Stella, newly a teen, has just developed the ability to see how other people will die. Ironically, it is their gifts that have kept Elinor and Jenny apart for the last twenty-five years. But as Stella struggles to cope with her disturbing clairvoyance, the unthinkable happens: One of her premonitions lands her father in jail, wrongly accused of homicide. The ordeal leads Stella to the grandmother she's never met and to Cake House, the Sparrow ancestral home, full of talismans and fraught with history. Now three generations of estranged Sparrow women must come together to turn Stella's potential to ruin into a potential to redeem."

I am in love with this author. Of special note in this collection, the stories written for Tori Amos/about her music. Just incredible. I also loved the story about Shadow, since he has always been one of those characters you wish you could just keep reading about (American Gods). This is definitely a book I will read again and again.

I didn't expect to enjoy this book so it was a wonderful surprise when I discovered that the content had much to say about friendship among women. It was well written and avoids the trap of sentimentality over reality.

I guess I'm just not as into teen romance as some people. The story itself wasn't very appealing, but I can tell that the plot did take some work, and poor Emily is a character that we can all relate to. In that aspect, I suppose I do have to give O'Connell some credit.
