Wow, great book with an ending that rocks!! I was all set to give this book four stars all the way up until the last five/six chapters. The last few chapters is what gave this book one more star. If I were to give out awards this books would get "Most Shocking and Touching Ending" out of all the books I have read.

I've read a great deal about the Amish. This was interesting from a very personal perspective and I did learn a few new things about the culture that I didn't know before. His writing is vague at times and lacks some depth. In my readings, most people that leave the faith are teenagers or young adults that have never fully committed to the church. His situation is unique in that he does become a full member and then leaves. The end was much different than I expected and I wish the author expanded more on the specific details of his faith now. He does keep a current blog that I went to after reading to find out information, but I still wish his book expanded on his faith at the end. All in all, a good and quick read, especially if you are interested in the Amish.

I read this book some time ago and am re-reading it now as a dear friend undergoes treatment for breast cancer. The author writes about the wildlife of the Great Salt Lake and her family's journey during her mother's cancer treatment. The intersections of the crisis of wildlife and human life are amazing. Williams is a talented writer and devoted naturalist. She is also a Mormon and the geography of her book will be familiar to other LDS members.

Very interesting read. A story about a family of "experiments" and their life in their family-run traveling carnival. I had a hard time putting it down. Weird, but very enjoyable!

I like this book. I have read this book many times. I do not read it that much anymore. A lot of it is annoying to me now but I read it many times before. I read some of the stories maybe 10 times. I feel like Lorrie Moore worked a lot harder and longer and with more agony in her face while editing than anyone else I have read, for short stories.

I forgot that I wasn't going to read this. I just picked it off the shelf at the library. It started out promising enough. I liked Jessamine's POV and voice and I found the poison garden interesting but the story got worse and worse leaving a bad taste in my mouth, maybe equivalent to something like poison. I won't be reading on even though this book ends pretty much as a cliff hanger.
