I have to admit this one was a let down compared to the others. The ending was kind of lame because the clique like splits up: Alicia for her cheerleading squad, Dylan for Derrick "Derrington", Kristen for trying to help both Massie and Layne get Dempsey then realizes that Dempsey likes her and she likes Dune but then she starts to like Dempsey, Massie's a arrogant/control freak and Claire is kind of distant thoughout the book, like the author doesn't mention her much. (She's still with Cam though.) It wasn't bad though but I really want to read the next one. Cannot wait for it to come out in July.

A soulless harpy whose works are best fit for the fires of the underworld. Nice rack though. Pity that doesn't affect a book.

This book took me a while to get into but once I did it was just as enjoyable as the first book in the series. I thought that Will's character balanced out Lyra very well and it was really enjoyable following how they both coped in strange worlds.
I wasn't sure what to expect with this story, and it has been sitting on my wish list waiting for me to decide. I am not a "horse-lover" and when I found it in audiobook, I decided to give it a try, I like many of Maggie's books, so... I was very pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the story. It was visually stunning! The story isn't so much about horses as it is about people and their tie to the land that they love. Sean and Puck are great characters and I loved the alternative POV as it raced to the finish. I had a bit of trouble with Gabe's character, as I wasn't as forgiving as Puck. Beautifully written, lovely story!

I have loved this book every time I have read it. I need something to read now that I know I will like because I've had too many duds in a row, too much wasted time. I thought that by the third? fourth? time I've read something it wouldn't keep me so engrossed, but I can't wait to get done with my grad school work so I can pick it up and keep reading. I think I love this book more each time I read it. I think it's the character's in the novel. Each one is so well developed that I can truly imagine them being real people. I'm a lover of stories with well-rounded characters, so Keyes' books are right up my alley. I've finally bought my own copy, so I'll no longer need to rely on its availabilty at the library.

This novel has both an unusual title and an unusual focus: it's the story of a teenage girl removed from a bizarre fundamentalist cult in the late 1990's (during the Y2K scare), who builds a new life with a foster family in suburban Maryland, and as we come to see, that representative run-of-the-mill middle class family has some serious issues of their own. Bardi adopts a technique of letting each of the four main characters relate part of the narrative from her or his own perspective (think Faulkner) and she quite effectively made me sympathize and identify with each perspective in turn, which I consider impressive because on the surface I would not think I have all that much in common with most of these folks. Getting us to see below those surface levels of difference and reflect on what needs we share and how our perspectives and back stories ultimately divide us is a noble purpose for any work of literature, and kudos to Bardi for this well written and engaging tale that does just that. As I lived inside the DC Beltway in suburban Maryland many years ago, the locale rang true to me, and I found the way Bardi interwove the function and viewing of television in people's lives--how it informs their social interactions and constructions of reality--very insightful as well. About three quarters of the way through, the novel took a turn I hadn't expected, and I found myself unable to put it down (despite outside demands) as I not only enjoyed the ongoing nuances of character development, but also felt driven by that very basic fiction impetus: I became absorbed in the need to know what happened, and what resolution, if any, there might be.

از تخسیای که از شخصیتهای داستانهای این کتاب میبارد خوشم میآید. اکثر داستانهایش از آنهایی است که دوست نداشتم تمام شود.

This book is really amazing. It is a simple and beautiful story that makes you sit back and think about what is REALLY important in life. It makes you consider all the outcomes and rewards of challenges, and it really captures the beauty of unexpected encounters and how life always has a way of opening a window for you just when a door is shut. The ending is really powerful.
