The story was a little slow for me as it started, but I couldn't put it down by the end. Thank goodness it's the first in a series! Gabaldon's mastery of the time period, including the language and historical facts, make this series educational as well as emotionally rewarding.

I was given this book when I was much younger and never finished it. I found it hard to read, not making much sense at the time. Now, I found it easy to read and very applicable to defending the Christian faith. The reason, I think, can be summed up in this quote taken directly from page 144: "Whenever you find any statement in Christian writings which you can make nothing of, do not worry. Leave it alone. There will come a day, perhaps years later, when you suddenly see what it meant." In this book, C.S. Lewis brilliantly gives his rational case for the Christian faith to believers and nonbelievers alike. His writing is as applicable today, as it was printed in 1952.
