Way too much war for me. I liked Alaric(main male) much more than Fallon (main female) of the book. She was just too much of everything. Too head strong, too persistant, too loyal to what was gone, and too unforgiving!

Reminded me a bit of my favorite Diana Wynne Jones book, "The Homeward Bounders". Hero gets forcibly removed from his own universe and has to travel a series of parallel worlds to find his way home. It's a very nice genre piece with a distinct young adult vibe, and it gets top marks for plot alone, and the fact that I read the whole thing in one sitting.

Penasaran juga pengen baca kelanjutannya setelah mengikuti petualangan Lyra yang diceritakan dengan terburu-buru di buku berhalaman 48 lembar ini. Ya jelas lah, buku yang aslinya 399 halaman diringkas menjadi 48 halaman pasti terkesan buru-buru. Ilustrasi yang diambil dari film dengan aktor dan artis pemerannya membuat asik baca buku ini. Gak pa-pa deh ceritanya singkat, sing penting kan dah tau lah inti ceritanya. Tinggal nyari filmnya deh di rental :D Tapi suwer, jd agak penasaran baca lanjutannya: The subtle knife. Semoga cepet dibikin storybook 48 pages juga biar gak mesti baca yang 326 itu *ngarep*

A friend lent this to me, and I could barely put it down, I was so entertained by this paranormal steampunk romance mystery, which made me laugh out loud all the way through. I'll definitely have to read the continuing adventures of Alexia (one of my favorite protagonists in a while, especially in this kind of light-hearted entertainment), as well as of all the great secondary characters!

For someone who has such a loathing for chick flicks, I have such an unnatural attachment to marriage plots. I really, really liked this novel. This is my second foray into reading Hardy, and I have to admit that I think this novel much better than Tess of the D'Urbervilles. I think the two main characters were more carefully crafted and much better developed. And when you have a serious "wtf" moment at any point in a novel this dated, it's only a bonus. The story of Gabriel Oak, devoted, modest and meager farmer and his interactions with the headstrong Bathsheba Everdene (I mean, Bathsheba, c'mon - where do you even see names like that anymore?!) was realistically sculpted and I found myself hooked. Yes, the story of these two who meet early on in life and then keep meeting and keep meeting over the years was incredibly predictable, but I still found myself intrigued in spite of myself. The book was beautifully written. It makes me want to pick up other Hardy novels, and that's a sizable compliment for any author.

One family's horrifying story of life right before, during and after Hurricane Katrina. How the family still lives there with all the injustice that was done to the father is beyond me. Their strength and faith renewed and strengthened in their city, state and United States altogether amazes me. I don't think I could feel the same.
