3.25 stars I quite enjoyed Faith & Fidelity, even without the strong emotional effect I was hoping for, or without any plot, aside from the romance. First part of the story focuses on each grieving, damaged man finding the friend they both desperately need in the other. Gay for you theme isn't really for me, especially when two straight men, cop&ex-cop even, just basically ignore the fact that they have both been hetero-sexual all their lives and basically jump each other without a second thought(okay I exaggerated a little). Evan eventually gets cold feet (what will the neighbors think) and breaks things off with Matt. What really disturbed was how the problems that lead Evan to his decision to not pursue anything with Matt, weren't ever discussed between the mcs, not even when they break up nor when they sneakily reconcile, neither were the things that happened while they were separated. And this is just a personal preference, but I'd favor the hottest sex scene to be between the main characters. Over all, one of the better gfy- themed novels out there and an enjoyable enough story with a well drawn cast. The writing flowed very smoothly and had me interested enough to read the sequels too.

This book was very helpful with training our Pug. It was easy to read and the information provided was enjoyable. I refer to it quite often for reassurance.

Well, the book jacket blurbs are right on: Marie is simultaneously bad (devious, conniving, and manipulative) and very endearing. I enjoyed her character, and the whimsical spontaneity that dictates her journey in the novel. But I guess I wish the structure of the novel itself hadn't been quite so whimsical. At times, I felt like I was reading something so plot-driven that I could almost hear the author thinking, "OK, now that I've gotten Marie to France, let's see what happens next." In the end, this narrative just didn't feel very well crafted to me. But I laughed out loud, enjoyed the characters, and really, really loved the opening scene: a drunk babysitter passed out in the bathtub with somebody else's baby. What could be more deliciously bad than that?

** spoiler alert ** Absolutely brilliant! The story and pictures are woven together really well - showing the main character and what ideas she's done and what the outcome was. One that I really liked was when she gave "the gift of cauliflower" to her brother! Really laugh out loud funny!

Coming of age story grappling with memory and how different characters view the same situation, as well as how it shapes their lives. Lee Goddell tries to find meaning in life, much as he tries to discover form within marble as a sculptor. When he is a boy in small town New Jesper, Illinois, a heinous crime happens to one of his classmates and he witnesses how his father, the Judge, and other leaders deal with the issue, more concerned with how the crime will affect the town’s reputation than on how the victim is faring. Years later he again encounters his classmate and learns how the incident affected her. Also central to the story is Ogden Hall, where Lee went to school. It was founded by an unlikeable, rich, big-game hunter. It is never entirely apparent why he would endow a school when he seems to have little interest in education or people generally, much less children. Probably he is getting revenge on his wife, who wants to go to Europe and have Rodin sculpt her likeness. Years later a bust of Rodin’s creation serves as the centerpiece of Ogden Hall’s library and is a constant inspiration to Lee. The common mythology among the students is that the bust is of Ogden’s late wife. This turns out to be false, the sculpture instead being that of an unknown Chicago debutante. The school is full of misfits and always struggles to retain qualified and respectable faculty. When it burns down in the end, the previous headmaster’s declaration that Ogden Hall is cursed seems to be true after all. Rodin’s Debutante illustrates how everyone views the past differently, and the way we view of our memories informs our future.
