I only had a vague idea what this book was about when I started reading it. Perhaps that's why I enjoyed it so much.There was never a dull moment in the story, the writing was really good, and all of the characters were engaging. I'll never look at faerie's the same way again! I'm not so patiently awaitign the next book.

A great look in to the complexities of cross-cultural medicine; the book looks at the medical care and treatment of an autistic Hmong child and the problems inherent in trying to treat a child whose family has an entirely different grasp on and explanation of the child's "sickness". This book made me want to become a doctor, if for no other reason than to confront our health care system's blatant ineptitude in dealing with cross-cultural medical care. Anne Fadiman does a great job presenting all sides of this story.

Brian knows more than anyone I've met about earth science, meterology, and general cool science facts. This book is like talking to Brian for 400 pages. Loved it.
