Some of the plot "twists" weren't big surprises as you went along, but some were. If you like a book of twists that will make you a bit teary-eyed, it's an easy read and one of those books that really creates vivid mental imagery.

Forget the film, it's rubbish! (Even John Cusack couldn't save it.) The book, however, is brilliant. I loved the level of detail in the descriptions of all the characters. I must read it again some day. :)

Calling this book unusual is probably the best way to describe it. The plot, the characters and the literary style are all quite eccentric (or original, depending on your point of view) which makes for a very memorable and enjoyable read, if not a particularly "nice" one. To be blunt, most of the kids in this book are a bunch of terrors. They're miserable, cynical and apparently lack consciences. More than once, I stopped to re-read a passage two or three times because I couldn't believe what had just happened. Despite the grim view of the world the author takes, the protagonist was fascinating to follow. He was evil in so many ways, but also kind and nearly heroic in a lot of others. He is one of the most well-developed and memorable anti-heroes I've encountered in a long time. Not to be cruel, but this book will probably die in the same way to most, which is to say in complete obscurity. But if it defies the odds, it'll be because the author didn't follow the usual rules of fiction but broke them and wrote something remarkably different.

This is my second Coelho novel. I found this much better than the first one I read. The story of Veronika was intriguing as were the stories of Mari and Eduard. However, I feel Coelho has either a 'hang up' about sex or is still trying to figure this out for himself. I felt that parts of this book didn't need to be written.

Another good Sean Dillon book. I think I read or listened to this one many years ago, as the story was familiar. But it was great to read again. There are still a few in this series I haven't listened to, so on with the next!

Although I'm not much of thriller fan, I really like Daniel Silva's kind, guilty-conscienced Israeli assassin. I read one of the recent books first and now I'm going back and reading the first books in this series. I've enjoyed them all so far and learned a bit of art history as well.
