Marcin Tkaczyk marcintkaczyk — This delightfully engaging tale features Lucy Valentine, heir to the matchmaking business Valentine, Inc. The Valentines use their powers of aura reading (legendarily bestowed by Cupid, himself) to unite their clients in romantic relationships. Lucy, however, had an unfortunate lightning-related mishap as a teenager, and her psychic power now manifests as an ability to find lost objects. When Lucy's father needs to take a break from his business, Lucy apprehensively agrees to step in. Suddenly, she's making matches, and with the help of Sean, the studly PI upstairs, also investigating a possible murder. Lucy is a witty, charming and refreshing character, as are her friends and relatives. The narrative reads like a snappy, overly verbal television show. In fact, it would make a great television show, now that I think of it. The "will they/won't they" sexual tension of Lucy and Sean's relationship, the lost-object-mystery-of-the-week premise, the zany supporting characters. Yes, an excellent television show. ABC should option this. Immediately. My one complaint is that I had guessed the twist-y resolution to the whole murder mystery about halfway in, and that some of the other pairings seemed a little predictable, as well. But, I suppose it's impossible to be completely original. I did enjoy reading it very much, even though I knew what was going to happen, and I will be looking forward to the next volume in this series.
