monikakowalik
Monika Kowalik monikakowalik — This is the romantic tale of an English lass and an Highlands laird. The story reminds me of those classics by Kathleen Woodiwiss... AND... I didn't want the story to end. This is a not-to-be-missed book by Julie Garwood.

The Pledge aaronlarnavarro — A wonderful glimpse into living in China and teaching English to insightful students. A lot has changed but the charm the people and country possess can still be found today.

Shahinaz Assem _itt — Synopis Rick Tramonto started as a high school dropout working at Wendy’s; he became one of the hottest celebrity chefs in the world. Yet his rise to culinary success was marked with tragedy, loss, and abandonment. As a teenager, Rick worked to support the family when his father (who had Mob ties) went to prison. As a young adult, he struggled with a learning disability and drug addiction. Yet as a chef, he rose rapidly to culinary stardom, earning rave reviews and eventually opening the famous four-star establishment Tru. From the outside, it looked like he had everything he ever wanted; his lifelong hunger for meaning should have been more than met. But on the inside, his life and his marriage were falling apart. And then, one night, a voice on the radio changed everything. Containing recipes and color photos, Scars of a Chef is the mesmerizing rags-to-riches memoir of one chef’s journey through the highest heights and the lowest lows of the culinary world . . . and his search for something that would finally heal his wounds and sustain him through even the darkest times. I enjoyed reading Rick's life story and glad that he has more to go. Even when he wasn't a believer early in his life I can see God's hand in there! He had a rough time as a child, his parents home was very dysfunctional. Am glad that he did have the support of loving Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and cousins. He is an over achiever, the amount of time he put into honing his craft, and the success he achieved. He is a very inspiring man, and willing to do all that he could to learn to be the very best! I loved that the book included pictures, putting faces to the people that are talked about in the book. Also included are some yummy recipes though out! A must read of any young aspiring chefs! Anwar Malandy anwarmalandy — “I can listen no longer in silence. I must speak to you by such means are within my reach. You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone forever.” “But Anne with an elegance of mind and a sweetness of character, which must have places her high with any people of real understanding, was nobody with either her father or her sister: her word had no weight; her convenience was always to give way; -she was only Anne.” “How eloquent Anne Elliot have been, how eloquent, at least, were her wishes on the side of earthly warm attachment, and a cheerful confidence in futurity, against that over anxious caution which seems to insure exertion and distrust over Providence. She had been forced into prudence in her youth, she learned romance as she grew older- the natural sequence of an unnatural beginning.” “Anne felt the utter impossibility, from her knowledge of his mind, that he could be unvisited by remembrance any more than herself. There must be the same immediate association of thought, though she was very far from conceiving it to be of equal pain…there could have been no two hearts so open, no tastes so similar, no feeling so in unison, no countenance so beloved. Now they were as strangers, for they could never become reacquainted. It was a perpetual estrangement.” “My idea of good company, Mr. Elliot, is the company of clever, well-informed people, who have a great deal of conversation, that is what I call good company.” “You are mistaken,” said he gently, “that is not good company that is the best. Good company requires only birth, education and manners, and with regard to education is not every nice. Birth and good manners are essential, but a little learning is by no means a dangerous thing in good company, on the contrary, it will do very well.” “Mr. Elliot was rational, discreet, polished, but he was not open. There was never any burst of feeling, any warmth of indignation or delight, at the evil or good of others. This, to Anne, was a decided imperfection. Her early impressions were incurables. She prized the frank, the open-hearted, the eager character beyond all others. Warmth and enthusing did captivate her still…Mr. Elliot was generally too agreeable.” “She had hoped to be wise and reasonable in time, but alas! alas! she must confess to herself that she was not wise yet.” “I do regard her as one who is too modest for the world in general to be aware of half her accomplishments and too highly accomplished for modesty to be natural in any other woman.” “Surely, if there be constant attachment on each side, our hearts must understand each other ere long. We are not boy and girl, to be captiously irritable, misled by every moment’s inadvertence, and wantonly playing with our own happiness.” “You should not have suspected me now, the case so different, and my age so different. If I was wrong in yielding to persuasion once, remember that it was to persuasion exerted on the side of safety, not of risk. When I yielded, I thought it was to duty; but no duty could be called in aid here. In marrying a man indifferent to me, all risk would have been incurred, and all duty violated.”

Jennifer Hines jenniferhines78 — I was *vastly* underwhelmed by this epic adventure/horror story based on the real Franklin lost expedition to the Arctic in 1845. Characters were interesting, a few thrilling sequences of horror, but overall no sense of mood or impending doom, which is why I wanted to read it in the first place. Ended up being a three-month slog to finish it. Alas.
