Mostafa Ali mostafaaligfx — At my high school, I had to defend this book in a hearing against someone who wanted to censor it and have it removed from the school library. The weird thing is, that year, "Lords of Discipline" was required reading. The Chocolate War was being threatened with censorship because it had scenes of masturbation and scenes of children being cruel to each other. I didn't really like or dislike the book that much, because I had just read Lords of Discipline and so everything was just kind of desensitized to me. But of course it shouldn't be censored. This book is basically like Lords of Discipline only a decade or so younger. If you go from Lords of discipline to The Chocolate war, sex > masturbation, torture > "beating up", etc. plus it eliminates stuff like racism and love and betrayal. The book is all right, but I recommend Lords of Discipline if you want the same lessons (plus a few) to really hit you in the face. I'm just glad that the lady who wanted to censor the book hadn't read Lords of Discipline, she probably would have had a stroke. Down with censorship!

Ssyeng Yong yssyeng — Daniel Clowes may be the best fiction graphic novelist there is. With every book, you can see his keen attention to the art, the craft of the narrative, the psychology of the characters, and his knowledge of the genre. Additionally, you never expect the same-old, same-old from Clowes, every book experiments with something different, and the payoff of the risks is large. Wilson is written in a series of graphic narrative vignettes that build the neurotic life of the character. He uses different artistic styles--from the exaggerated cartoonish, to detailed realism, to the use of color themes of entire pages that create a mood. The humor and the tragedy are handled masterfully. I have yet to be anything less than in awe when I read a Clowes book.

Zubair Siddiqui zubairsiddiqui — My least favorite of Eliz Young's books, but still worth reading.

Thomas Gao slantyboy — A great follow up book to "Dark Lover." I enjoyed getting to know the other Brothers (in this case Rhage) and their background. This book left me wanting to know more about Zsadists.
