Amper Philip _mpermelo — The language in this book is so exquisite that it must be read aloud. In fact I did read it aloud to myself. Is that weird? And of course it is a classic that is so often alluded to, one is almost forced to read it. Except for several drawn out pages about collecting jewels, religious trinkets, and the like, the story moves quickly to its fateful conclusion. I had a hard time believing that a person could drown in vanity as Dorian had or that he could go beyond the point of redemption. But maybe I missed the point here. I suppose that Dorian was supposed to represent late 19th century England, and I should not have taken him so literally.

Guillermo Künning mumusss — The author tends to ramble a lot, but it's all interesting stuff: why they called it the Tenderloin, how Canal became a street, what the Bowery used to be like... Obviously don't bother if you don't live in New York (or have an obsession with it).
