Alicia Stiles stilesa473a7fd — I really thought I would like this book, and I wanted to like it. At the beginning of the book it seemed like most of it was about boys that Anne liked. Not so thrilling. Then when the Frank family is in hiding, Anne recounts the tedious torture. You really feel her pain and just how tedious it is! She talks about the other people hiding and how they get on her nerves. I was hoping for more history. I do think it might be a good book for a middle/high school aged girl that would enjoy reading someone's diary.

Phil Art philart — Pearl could have been an interesting story, but the characters are too over-the-top without being amusingly quirky. They are just odd and not very likeable. I did not find anyone that was interesting enough that would make me hope another book will follow with the same characters. Pearl still would have been readable except for the multiple graphically described rapes and other violence against women. It was just sickening. I read three-quarters of the book before I decided I had read more than enough.
