Yahui Li a2438150865316 — I love this book, as much as I love any book that Vonnegut ever wrote. I suggest that if you didn't like Slaughterhouse 5 (and I suppose you are allowed to NOT like Slaughterhouse 5), you should try this book. I think it is still classic Vonnegut, a bit of the sci-fi, a bit of insight, and a few dirty jokes thrown in.

Evgenia Andreeva _ndreevaevgenia — I have to confess, this was one of those large fantasy tomes that sat on my bookshelf for about two years before I finally got around to reading it. But once I started it I couldn't put it down. The books takes place in a richly drawn world clearly based on the city-states of Renaissance Italy. It follows the fortunes of a family of painters, the Grijalva's, who are struggling to recover from a horrible plague. In this world, paintings are legal documents, commemorating marriages, births, wills, and deaths. The Grijalva's have fallen from favor at court but are eager to once again obtain the position of Lord Limner, official painter to the Duke. Yes, the novel had a lot of class struggle and politics woven throughout, but what I really loved were the characters. It follows the life of Sario, an ambitious and unscrupulous painter, and different women throughout a two thousand year history of the family. In spite of the length of time it covers the book is still easy to follow and rich in characterization and depth. I would recommend it to fans of historical and political fantasy, as well as to those who enjoy family sagas.

Susana Salinas susanasalinasm — ** spoiler alert ** This one went by a little more quickly for me than New Moon and had a bit more action. I'm glad the vampires are back in town. Bella was starting to really grate on my nerves by the end of the book. She's willing to die and become a vampire and pledge herself to Edward, but she doesn't want to marry him. She's downright rude about it too! The love triangle is fun, but again, Bella started to annoy me by stringing Jacob along, not realizing until near the end of the book that she might love him, and she's fully aware that she's starting to hurt Edward. I was really feeling for both Jacob and Edward by the end of this. The exchanges between Edward and Jacob were really good, especially when Jacob was serving as a space heater for Bella. :-)
