Artur Stelmach arturstelmach — Mr. Frost gave the class an excerpt from The Tipping Point which really drew my attention towards the book and made me want to read the book. I had never read a case study that was so long and introduced so many examples to prove the initial questions. The Tipping Point mainly focused on how a simple concept can suddenly blow up and be popular or something changing so drastically. The examples Malcolm Gladwell proposed were so different when it comes to proving a point, he didn't only stick with health or crime issues. For example, one of his main points was that the brand Hush Puppies were at one point the shoe no one ever wore but once a few kids from Soho began wearing them, the trend began to spread like a disease. The main idea was how one changed idea can spark other people to follow. Another example, which was the excerpt we read in class, was that crime rates were decreasing in New York City because there was less graffiti on trains and people didn't see it quite as much in the outside world. How could less graffiti, decrease crime rates? The way I looked at it was when people see a cleaner place, less violence is bound to happen. I really enjoyed the book because it was not such a light read but really made you view the way the world works in a different way. I would for sure recommend this book and personally I am interested in reading Malcolm Gladwell's other books.

Anastasiya Poyasok poyasok — I couldn't finish this book- even when I had to sit in jury duty for 2 days- it was that terrible. Not only not written well, but it was unrealistic in that the storyline didn't even maintain consistencies from "Gone With the Wind.".

Jessica Bonini _ess_onini24 — This book has one important message: that the nutrients in whole foods are digested differently from a nutrient extract. Last night, I watched a mediocre documentary on the Bushmen of southern Africa. They have this plant named hoodia that is supposed to function as an appetite suppressant. Unilever swooped in on the deal and made a 'hoodia extract' in pill form. Trouble is, the conclusion I made is that this is an example of the American micronutrient love affair. The reason hoodia suppressed the Bushmen's appetite is that they EAT IT. THEY EAT IT WHOLE AND IT FILLS THEM UP BECAUSE IT IS FOOD. I am sure spinach would do the same thing for our nation's overweight. Pick this book up for its one valuable postulate. It is an easy, pleasurable read.

Claire Tabard clairetabard — I'm a complete E.M. Forster fan, but had somehow managed to avoid reading this book until I took a course on Forster last semester. This is now one of my favourites - funny, clever, experimental without losing narrative structure, and with that Forsterian dedication to character that makes every novel of his a delight. More than any other novel of his - except, okay, Howards End - Forster experiments with his intrusive narrative voice, which is just great fun. I love this book to bits.

Zali Mazli _ali_azl — Eric Carle's books are classics. Mostly pictures. Well done.
