I really liked this book. I'm not much of a book critic but this book kept me entertained and wanting to read more. I also love the ending bc it gave closure to the whole story. I'll never look at a circus the same way again!

This was an interesting read. . .up to a point. Once we got to the macho, chest-thumping stuff about hunting boar, Pollan totally lost me. I also thought his justifications of meat eating were specious at best. Although I don't eat meat, I don't think people should be required to justify it, however, if they choose to do so, their justifications should be well thought out. Pollan's were, to my mind, neither well thought or argued.

Not Holly's best work by a long shot. Even the sex was sort of boring. The real thing that bugged me about this novel was that there was no sense of time and place--it was set in medieval times but you would never have really guessed it.
