This book follows on from Kate Holden’s ‘In My Skin’. After 5years of drugs and prostitution, Kate has saved enough money to travel to Italy to escape her past. Kate describes the people she meets along the way, and her sexual encounters with many men which sometimes involves multiple partners. This doesn’t particularly bother me, providing both parties consent and are happy with this arrangement. But I felt Kate was using her body again; to pay for living expenses, to gain affection and companionship, and as a way of punishing herself which just seem all wrong. Most of the time Kate didn’t take any pleasure and/or satisfaction from these acts, it was something she needed to do to please them. I thought after what Kate had been through, she would have more respect for her body and a little dignity. The writing was another issue for me. In her previous book ‘In My Skin’, even in the darkest moments her writing had an elegance and class to it, which I loved. However in this book, the constant use of the ‘F’ bomb became monotonous, and gave it a cheap and nasty feel. I really didn’t like. The book was a depressing read.
