You don't always need words to create an awesome imaginative story.

Van Gogh has always been a very intriguing painter for me. His works are filled with such vibrant colors and assured strokes while also evoking an incredible amount of emotion that it's hard to imagine him struggling with crippling bouts of madness. Wallace explores this dichotomy through the friendship of Vincent Van Gogh and Dr Gachet which emerged during the last year of Van Gogh's life. Through Gachet we don't completely understand Van Gogh but can at least imagine the despair of being mad and simultaneously incapable of being cured. This book was heartbreaking but it also made me think of the tragedy of Van Gogh who knew he was loosing his mind but was also an unrecognized genius with a unique way of looking at the world and manner of capturing it on cavas. My own experience of reading it was doubled by my opportunity (as a student studying abroad) to see first hand some of Van Gogh's masterpieces. If there's one addition I would make to the book it would be inlets of the paintings themselves.

Okay...here you have Science, Terrorism, Toxicology, a super virus, mercenaries, canibals, psycho giant red crabs, glowing people, and a spactacular light show by special squids that illuminate and hunt in packs. Oh...and a prostetic hand that when detached can be manipulated by remote control. Lots of people die (Or do they?). This book was enjoyable in the fact that it was non-stop action. I have not read any of the other Sigma Force books, but I probably will. I enjoy a good shoot-em-up book.

The clue to this story was in the first few pages; but I promptly forgot that when I got involved with Edgar's story. His love for his dogs and their intelligence was very moving and captivating. I have read of others who feel that the dog is the best thing that can happen in a persons life. They show the love and trust that many people can't. Stephen King said in his review of this store that "It's a novel about the human heart, and the mysteries that live there, understood by impossible to articulte." He said (if we can believe it) that he will read the story again. I know that at sometime I too will pick up this book and read it again.

Chock with symbolism of the Diaspora -- gold for a paper for "Jewish Latin American" lit class.
This book produced one snort. Not even a laugh. It did pick out a lot of Stephanie Meyer's failings in writing her best selling "Twilight" novels, but it did it constantly and repeatedly. Those novels are pretty poorly written. This, sadly, is less fun to read.

Gotta Have It! Freedom from Wanting Everything Right Here, Right Now, By Gregory L. Jantz, PhD w/Ann McMurray, David C. Cook, 2010, 272 Pages, ISBN-13: 978-1434766243, $14.99 “Excessity”– a word Seattle author, Dr. Gregory L. Jantz coined to describe “…an overindulgence of any behavior…a coping mechanism that …insulates from a difficult world.” In his new release the author encourages readers to learn the differences between real needs versus wants that become pseudo needs that turn excesses into necessities. Those controlled by the power of their wants, (pseudo needs) are left with a sense of lingering hunger and dissatisfaction that continues to drive overindulgent behavior. The outcome, whether with food, alcohol, finance, gambling or sex is that “…comfort becomes more important than consequences.” Full Review: http://tinyurl.com/3nzguq9
