In the catalogue of my obsessions, nuns ranks right up there with freak shows and prison, and this book is the best nun book of them all. It's a wealth of knowledge if, like me, you're curious as to the structure of the Benedictine day and year, and it's surprisingly gripping. A well done story all the way 'round.

** spoiler alert ** all i can say, is i'm just glad jack didn't die. i could go into detail about why i disliked this book, but i already feel like i wasted a day of my life reading it. it has such great potential to be a subversive, thought provoking text. but i just felt it fell flat on all scores. i've given it two stars simple because it was a female protagonist during the first world war, and that alone is always interesting.

This is a gritty tale set in the dark side of modern day India. Its focus is on the ever-present social disparities there as reflected on by an admittedly unsympathetic narrator (who reveals very early on that part of his path toward becoming an "entrepreneur" involved slitting the throat of his former master). It's a compelling story told in a unique voice that's worth reading.

Fascinating read from a historical standpoint. Tells the story of German U-Boats off the coast of North Carolina during World War II and the damage that they caused. Always interesting to learn about things that usually don't pop up in our high school history textbooks. While I knew they were there, I had no idea that over 400 ships were destroyed. Amazing characters, both American and German, though the love story is hokey and completely unnecessary.

Yes, yes I did read another Vampire Romance.... It was free and worth every penny. Seriously, it was an ok read. I liked some of the Vampire lore that they used and the characters were decent. The excerpt of Vampire Mine that was included turned me off to any other books and slightly dampened my opinion of this book.
