This one did not disappoint. However, left you with another cliff hanger.....hopefully, the next book will resolve all unanswered questions. I love Special Agent Pendergast!

This was a great read for me. It started off quickly, and although the action slowed for a bit, Laurie London kept the story moving along and picked up the pace before I could get bored or restless. Mackenzie was different than most characters I have read. She was interesting in a quirky way and I wanted to get to know more about her. She is conflicted and cautious, especially given her family's tragic history. She is slow to love and hesitant to be loved which creates an intense emotional conflict when she finds herself drawn to Dom. As a reader, I could feel her internal struggle as if I was reading about myself. I absolutely adored Dom. He was mysterious in the beginning, drawing me in and wanting to know more about him. He is super sexy and protective of Mackenzie, which I always love in a hero. And what hero would be complete without a painful past? Dom's loss only makes him more endearing and lovable. The story was solid, too. It was well planned and well executed. The story-building was believable and moved at a realistic pace. There wasn't a ton of action, but enough to keep me turning the pages and there certainly were moments when I felt my heart rate pick up. I love the connection that the author builds between the characters, as well. The psychic connection between Mackenzie and Dom is believable and adds intense emotion to the story. This is a follow-up to her first cookbook, Deceptively Delicious. Basically it's all recipes that incorporate vegetable purees. I don't really have a problem getting my kids to eat veggies, but I could use more veggies myself! I haven't tried any of the breakfast or dessert recipes from this book, but there are some great main dish ideas and I plan to make more of them. This book is definitely worth a look because it has some great ideas.

This was a powerful book, with rich characterizations, that teaches that even the most polarized situations and relationships have more depth and more contradictions that we often assume. I listened to this as a book on tape and would like to go back some time and read the text.

a thought provoking look into excessive eating that manages to not be preachy or a "diet" book - it's about re-balancing your attitude to food.

This is a great adaptation of this story for fairly young kids; it hits all of the high points but manages not to be hurried, and the illustrations are fun but they don't take over the book. Good to have around for young ones who want a bedtime story and aren't quite ready for early chapter books.

The kind of book that finds its way inside your bones, that’s so beautiful it bruises. There are books I read, more and more lately, deconstructing as I go, picking apart their strengths and weaknesses. This, I’m just in awe of. This is the kind of book you read and then immediately reread and then still have to hug for five minutes before you can put it on your shelf. LOVE.

The Seven Whistlers is the newest in the growing line of collaborations between Benson and Golden, but is not a part of their Ghosts of Albion series. The stand-alone novella follows Rose in the days following her grandfather's death as the small town she lives in is plagued by fearsome black dogs and grave bad luck. Benson and Golden weave an intriguing tale for such a short space, and some of Golden's trademark horror is present as Rose slowly learns disturbing truths about loved ones. The horror lies less in the supernatural elements than it does in the destructive changes it brings to Rose's relationships. The authors also do a great job at bringing to life the small Vermont town where the story takes place. The descriptions of the setting, as well as the various characters that inhibit it, are vivid and efficient, and they really give the novella a great deal of flavor. Definitely worth a reread.

I was disappointed to find another series that contains so many elements of Harry Potter's world, but the story was interesting enough. When the villian is introduced as "Lord Valentine", who everyone thought was dead for years and who is obscessed with pure blood, I was rolling my eyes. It feels as if everyone is writing the same story these days and I'm surprised that they can actually get away with it. I could see where part of the story was going, but in the end, there was a twist that I wasn't expecting. Because of that, I probably could have given it 3 and a half stars.
