Overall, I thought that Tuesdays with Morrie was a wonderful, inspirational book about life. The book is outstanding as a beloved professor; Morrie gives his input and insight about the meanings of life. Whilst reading this book, small confusions and anxieties about life is somewhat answered as Morrie lectures Mitch about the significance of life.

I read this book so very long ago and didn't remember a dang thing so I re-read it and I appreciate it much more. I'd have to say that although things are no long the same as they were after the civil war; there is still discrimination towards other people and so this book is still very relevant today.

I have a theory that a nation's character can be expressed through its detective stories. American thriller usually have lots of blood; Swedish procedurals revolve around bizarre sex and British police dramas often feature unhappy, middle-aged detectives operating in gray, drab cities. That's certainly the case with this book, second in a series. I didn't catch the first and having read this one had no particular desire to continue with the series. Inspector Resnik is middle-aged, depressed at having been deserted by his wife, poorly dressed but also very bright and observant and scrupulously honorable. I can anticipate the way this series will develop. In this book, Resnik has the opportunity to sleep with a gorgeous young realtor who throws herself at him for some unknown reason. Of course, he's unwilling to respond. I guess each volume of the series will feature another mystery solved while Resnik himself grows ever more lonely and tormented. One problem with this book is that nothing very major seems to be at stake. There's some drug smuggling and some burglary but so what? No murders, no blood, no crazed fanatics trying to destroy the world .. so why bother? We see a bunch of honest, British coppers plodding their way through the drab streets of a Midlands city solving a bunch of burglaries? If you don't fall in love with the characters, and I didn't, seems like too much effort to be worth it.

Great for Middle Grade and Young Adult...chapters flip back and forth between the two main characters points of view...one boy and one girl.....cute -- the less mature middle school girls love it.

a friend of mine described this as the best book he'd ever read. i've had trouble viewing him in the same light ever since. it's not bad, it's just strange. very strange.

This book is excellent in that it seems to have been written by a batty socialite with the attention span of an affable dalmation and some time on her hands to dabble in the literary arts, while singing the praises of her other big hobby- gardening. With a forward by Truman Capote and illustrations by Cecil Beaton, this feels like a relic of another time and place (and class?) C.Z.'s bubbling enthusiasm for the gentle art of gardening is just about contagious, and her constant affirmations of the reader's green-thumb ability almost convince you to get off the couch and pick up a spade. Until you remember that your "garden" is a cement slab ending in a driveway, and... But nevermind. Prepare to be inspired to tear up whatever sort of yard you have in the hopes of making it bloom.

So good. Historical fiction. May be too detailed or girl related for Book Club

Lestat's a great character, and Rice does an action packed job of concluding this first vampire series.
