What a waste--went in expecting a follow up to the Dark Materials trilogy and was thoroughly disappointed. None of the "magic" that those books had and very little as far as plot. Don't bother.

I seriously had to refrain myself from screaming after each chapter! I love the Fuentes Brothers! Great books. I felt the end of this book left me still wanting more , n the story was still ended with the story floating.

Alison has a lot of rules: When stealing a rowboat, always check that the oars are the same length, so you don't go in circles. In reference to your best friend's crush, keep your feelings to yourself. And never use your locker if that's where you were standing when told the very worst news of all in The Alison Rules (2006) by Catherine Clark. Some of her rules aren't the most rational. But when your mother is dead, rationality isn't really important. In fact, it isn't even really a concern. Between the rules and her best friend, Laurie, Alison manages to get by. Maybe she isn't having the greatest time, but at least she's surviving. Everything changes when a new boy moves to Alison's small town. Patrick is fun, different, and he might be exactly what Alison needs. Unfortunately both Alison and Laurie fall for Patrick setting off a series of arguments and events that will ultimately tear the two friends apart. The Alison Rules was not the book I expected it to be. After looking at the cover and reading the blurb it seemed like a fun book that would have an ultimately okay ending. I was wrong. Don't get me wrong. Being surprised by a book is fine. It is usually a good thing. But I found the ending of The Alison Rules to be completely unforgivable. It was unnecessary, excessive, and made no sense in the general arc of the story. I would love to pick it apart for you here, but I don't post spoilers. Suffice it to say this is a story about growing up, grieving, and friendship.Then Catherine Clark threw in a surprise twist that, for me, completely invalidated everything else I had read in the book. I hate to say it so strongly but: Not recommended.

I'm on chapter 2 right now. So far, so good! It's funny, & it story is really similar to our stories us girls have! Pretty funny. --I'm now on page 111, I was on page 30 I didn't even notice I was that far! I was just so into the story, through out it, like so far where I reached.. there were some exciting events. But anyway, iim looking forward to reading more of it! F I N A L L Y finished the book!

Crime thrillers can quickly become overly repetitive as well as predictable, since they almost always feature a serial killer of some sort, and a detective, ex-military or journalist on their trail. Sometimes it's personal, sometimes not - either way, at the end of the day, what keeps me coming back is a new fresh twist on the old formula. Which is why I was delighted to stumble upon Halfhead - an action packed crime thriller set in the near future - thus many giving it the sci-fi tag in the process. Sure, it's nothing groundbreaking, but if you've had enough of the usual serial killer story lines and like your bit of sci-fi mixed with brutal action and graphic violence, strong characters and a cracking story, then I don't see how anyone will like this any less than I did. I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish. In fact, I was sad it ended. A sequel would be much appreciated, however, the author's publishers have him tied to releasing more of his bestselling crime series than venturing into new grounds, as was the case with this novel.

This was an interesting and different read. It was also a quick read. I love art and love Vermeer so the story behind the girl with the pearl earring, I found intriguing. I really enjoyed the talk about the art itself as an unfinished composition, mixing the colors, describing the colors, and the effort of heart and sould that goes into a painting. I felt the weight that Griet carried around with her; her family, her job, her love life, her fantasies. I kept wanting to call out to her throughout the novel, "Don't be so naive! This painter will never care for you! Don't ruin your life!" But through the pages, I watched her go along and do it. At the end, I just wish she would have acknowledged how lucky she was to have a man (Pieter) who truly loved her. Not all women have that and it seemed like he treated her well. I think she should have found solice in that. The read will stick with me for a while and I'm sure I will think of it from time to time.
