On election night in Zaire, George Plimpton taught Ernest Hemingway how to thumb wrestle. You can't make shit like that up.

This book is amazing - it is the best book I have read this year. Steve Horsfall is now officially my fave author. Brilliant characters / brilliant story - would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

Sometimes a character or author seems to reach the emotional questions of my own life, and this one surely did: the value of the big life or little life and what that has to do with being a woman, identifying self within or without labels and how to do life when the common acts of the labels are over; what life amounts to when you hit the question, "Is this all happiness is or isn't?" Anyway, it stirred my soul, and I loved it. Course, her Stone Diaries is on my fasvorites list already!

This book was very entertaining, encompassing everything from sorrow and regret to acceptance and love. I think it is great that a male author can delve into the true feelings of a man who is suffering from a loss, and who is lost. Joe Hill is very written. Ignatius Perrish awakens one morning after a drunken stupor to find he has grown a set of horns. In the beginning it appears that he is an unemployed low-life alcoholic who has no motivation to turn his life on a path more promising. He lives with a girl, Glenna, he doesn't see a future with, and he is disliked by many of his peers. Throughout the story the reader experiences a pure relationship and the catalyst for Iggy's behavior. In the end Ignatius Perrish is revealed as the forlorn underdog who comes to the understanding that evil really is a necessity on this planet. The story line was thorough and executed very well. There was a wide variety of characters and scenarios that almost every teenager and young adult can connect with or relate to.

My second favorite book by Jane Austen (next to Pride and Prejudice). Loved the message about making mistakes and having regrets and it not being the end of the world.
