I'm not going to review every book in the Myth series as they all kind of run together after a while... but if you have a history of loving fantasy and you don't mind someone poking fun at the genre, then these short books are worth a quick read. They're easy to follow and a few of the characters are especially enjoyable (not necessarily the main character, which so often happens in fantasy... how many people say that Harry Potter is their favorite character from the series??) and the plots move fast, even though they aren't the most well-constructed things around. Don't expect to be amazed... merely entertained. And I would recommend skipping Asprin's forewards, afterwords, introductions, and whatever else he writes as himself... he doesn't come across as a likeable guy. Pretty annoying, really.

Pretty light. I did however immensely enjoy all the pop culture references from the 90's and early 2000's. I think I need to go listed to some Robbie Williams and All Saints, followed by a Cold Feet marathon.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this after putting off reading it for some time. It was much more suspenseful than I had imagined and although the violence was somewhat brutal, those scenes were short and they do add to the picture of what things were like in a Bavarian village in the 17th century. There were many points where I felt grateful to be a woman in the 21st century in addition to having access to modern medicine and a hot shower. The book was very hard to put down up to almost the very end, which slowed down a bit after the mysteries were all revealed or explained. It might seem odd, but one of the reasons I think I enjoyed this so much was that it felt a lot like reading an English police procedural, of course in a different time and place. The translation was a bit odd or too modern in some parts, but not enough to ruin the overall experience. I will definitely be picking up the next book in the series!
This was my favorite book as a kid. I lost the original one that my sister and I used to share, but I found it on ebay and ordered a copy. It's a great one in my opinion.

Read/cook inspried meal: Red Snapper a Valencia, CA Chablis, Johnny Cakes, and hot cocoa I actually enjoyed this book (though it does drag in places). I had heard that Updike is something of a chauvanist and in parts I was ready to beleive it but by the end I really thought otherwise. The female characters are flawed but powerful and realistic. I could imagine Lexa communing with the earth or Sukie transfiguring things. It did have too much sex for me though.. to a point that it was disturbing lewd but in the end I guess it works. I would reccommend this book to anyone who likes stories about witches (if you can handle the sex).

Wow Christopher Paolini really knows how to write! this book was amazing! It should be used as a model on haw to write a good genuine fantasy book that everyone will love! Only one thing bothered me and that is that Eragon whines alot...yuo just HAVE to read this book!

Charles Pooter is one of the best characters in literature. In many respects, he is very similar to most people regardless of the gap between the time the book was written and the present day. The way he is baffled by modern life and struggles to keep up with the youth and vitality of his son is relatable at any time. The comedy in this book is not necessarily laugh out loud, but it's the recognition that comes from reading things that happen in everyday life that brings the humour

Perfect light beach read. Basically a remake of Practical Magic.
I'm a huge fan of the series of books co-authored by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. I also enjoyed Child's first solo novel, but Preston's The Codex left me wondering if Child is the heart of their writing duo (although Child's Utopia certainly had some plot holes). In The Codex, Maxwell Broadbent is a multi-millionaire who is dying of cancer. Instead of simply leaving his fortune to his three sons, who were never able to live up to his unreasonably high expectations, he decides to seal himself away in a tomb with all his belongings. He leaves them a message instructing them to come find him if they want to claim their inheritance, sending them on a perilous journey through the jungles of Honduras. It sounds really intriguing, but the entire book seemed to be one long description of boating and walking through the jungle. It was reminiscent of Child and Preston's Thunderhead, where a group of explorers take a perilous journey through the Southwestern deserts to find ancient ruins, but Thunderhead did a much better job of A) making the journey interesting, and B) devoting a large chunk of the book to what happened once they reached the ruins. I'd recommend it to Child and Preston fans, just for completeness's sake, but if you've never read them before, I definitely suggest starting with their first novel, Relic, instead. I won't write off Preston's solo novels yet, as I have his Tyrannosaur Canyon sitting on my bookshelf, and I'm hoping it's better than this one.
