As is often the case, the first book in the series, Uglies, was the most compelling and best story of the trilogy. Put Pretties has its share of suspense and action. Tally has finally become pretty. Now her looks are beyond perfect, her clothes are awesome, her boyfriend is totally hot, and she's completely popular. It's everything she's ever wanted. But something is missing--something she had when she was an Ugly.

Although I had a few problems with the rhymes, I love the photographs and can see using this as a vocabulary builder with preschoolers and ESL students. I guess it is the forced rhymes. I'm not sure I'd use this to read aloud to a whole class, but one on one it would be lovely.

Wow. I had heard that this book was phenomenal. People our book club always refer to it, but now I know why. The imagery of life in a hard-core communist "country" was amazing. The thing I liked most about it were the symbolisms, foreshadowing, and description of the human condition under an extremely opressive government. It is definitely in my top 15.

I didn’t expect much from this series and was surprised to find myself really enjoying it. It was satisfying on several levels. Deep and mature characters. Intense romance. Interesting plot. I absolutely love dark protagonists and Michelle M. Pillow tottaly delivered. Very complex characters with believable emotions. ---------------------------------------------- Apologies for any errors: I am self-taught in English.

I confess I didn't finish this - just couldn't connect with the narrator.

I had an embarassingly scant knowledge of Burma before reading this book and now I want to go (though my conscience won't allow me). I was especially intrigued that Burma has such a high literacy rate...This book was also a nice "time travel experiment" through the George Orwell books I had read many years before.

I found nothing interesting in this book. Nothing new that wasn't completely disgusting (c'mon, multiple heads?). The idea of new worlds and prophecies about main characters isn't new, and I found nothing unique to catch my interest. I don't even remember a remarkable writing style.

I really couldn't get past the first third of the book. I felt as if the concept of magic and how it was used was never fully explained, or explained well enough for the reader to understand. This seemed to happen a lot where the author would throw something new at you and then never explain it. It didn't seem worth it to me to continue to read on the off chance that maybe I'd understand something.

I don't forget the day I read this book. Our literature teacher was teaching us this book chapter by chapter. One day I came home from school. But I was deep inside the story coming back home! I was thinking what will happen next...!!! why teacher is going So slow in this book... I want to know more... I went home and I slept in my bed. I started from chapter 5 and chapter 6 and chapter 7 .... 8..... 9... 10... finished!!! It made me cry in chapter 7 I guess... when her friend went to Kerry's room which is in the second floor and find the newspapers below her bed and reads about kerry... when she was not crippled. when she was the star... the nice figures she made. when kerry was not being bullied by school friends.
