Good book, tactic was to show how other forms of government are inferior. Yet, a little too technical.

Lovely writes like a woman (and anyone who knows me knows that's a compliment). His characters are nuanced, complex (except for Jasper, I guess) and believable. He explores in great depth what it would feel like on all sides to be connected to others through the senseless death of a healthy woman and still-beating her heart.

Sometimes you think you're reading a novel. Following the journeys of three people who made the journey, from and to different parts of the country, reminds usthat the Great Migration is about people, not just historical, sociological and political trends. The latter information is woven into the stories adroitly. That said, the whole book needed a much heavier editing hand--there's a lot of repitition and sometimes the pace felt like a slow walk on a very hot and sticky southern afternoon. Overall, I recommend the book to those who are interested in digging more deeply into the American experience.

This is the best book by C. S. Lewis in my humble opinion. I love everything of his, but he really hit something here. There is an audio version read by John Cleese of Monty Python that is absolutely wonderful. Sadly it's out of print, but if you find it, get it. Cleese completely understands how to bring this book to life.

I wasn't familiar with the Collier brothers, the basis for this book, but I was fascinated with Homer and Langley. Doctorow does an excellent job bringing them and their situation to life, something I probably could not have visualized so vividly without the reality show, Hoarders. Good read.

What else is there that hasn't been said about the original Stan Lee/Steve Ditko run of "The Amazing Spider-Man". Unlike Golden Age characters like Batman and Superman, whose mythos were expanded upon by later writers and artists, you could read this volume and no other Spider-Man comics and have a solid grasp on what the character is all about and what makes him great. Sure, John Romita's stuff is great as well, but Ditko provides a quirky rendition of the character that makes it far easier to believe that he's a regular guy who has the same problems of everybody else. I read these for the first time when I was in my early teens, and subsequent readings only have me appreciate Ditko's art even more. This is great stuff, and I hope that my son will one day want to read these as well. He's in for a real treat if he does.

I was amazed at how she changed voices and made each character's distinct.
