İyi ve Kötü Tanrıların Önyargılarıdır TrendKitaplar Kütüphanesi

Well this was a great recommendation from Maya. I enjoyed reading this book and about Babbitt's ups and downs. And while the language will remind you that you're in the 20s, as expressions like "He's a corker" and "Go to the devil!" are not used anymore, his sentiment and the whole middle class/suburban angst, aspirations and need to fit in proper groups appears to have not changed. We find Babbitt unhappy with who he is and getting validation from his best buddy Paul, who feels the same. Then Babbitt tries to be more than elevate his social standing, escape his stifling family and society through rebellion against the status quo. On the whole it's just clear that poor Babbitt is just a weak man. I think Lewis does a great job of portraying Babbitt and the narrow world in which he lives and the story is still relevant today. This was my favorite passage from the book: "As he approached the office he walked faster and faster, muttering, 'Guess better hustle.' All about him the city was hustling, for hustling's sake. Men in motors were hustling to pass one another in a the hustling traffic. Men were hustling to catch trolleys, with another trolley a minute behind, and to leap from the trolleys, to gallop across the sidewalk, to hurl themselves into buildings, into hustling express elevators...Among them Babbitt hustled back to his office, to sit down with nothing much to do except see that they staff looked as though they were hustling."
